BLUMBERG
The late Ezra Shapiro,
a native of Cleveland,
rose to the high post of
world chairman of the
Keren Hayesod. He suc-
ceeded Dr. Israel Golds-
tein, who is now in re-
tirement from Zionist
leadership in Jerusalem.
Rena's mother, Sylvia
Shapiro, has to her credit
many years of service to
Hadassah and the Zionist
cause. A member of the
famous, Lamport Family,
she is now a leading factor
in public relations for
Hadassah'in Jerusalem.
It is their courage and de-
votion that led both to suc-
cessful leadership Jewish
ranks. When there were ob-
stacles, and there are many
in Jewish life, they were al-
ways "headstrong" in the
sense that they defied all
obstacles in the beet inter-
ests of their people.
Their daughter, Rena
Blumberg, was faced with
obstacles to her very life,
was confronted with pain
and agony. She defied
illnesses as her parents. did
political obstacles. She was
"headstrong," triumphed
and applied the term to her
book.
"Headstrong" is the
story of Mrs. Blumberg's
battle with cancer; a
battle she eventually
won. The author de-
scribes her personal
struggle with the disease,
the effect it had on her
family and the painful
process of chemotherapy
which was responsible
for her cure.
A turning point in her
treatment was the emo-
tional and psychological
pain she suffered when she
saw another woman make a
play for her husband at a
party. "It made me fighting
mad," Mrs. Blumberg re-
lates. "It was as though she
had written 'me off since I
had. cancer and was quickly
moving'
oving in on my territory."
The author continued in
her role as moderator of a

Track Terrorists
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Gen. Haim Erez, comman-
der of the southern area,
said Egypt was cooperating_
with Israel in tracking
down unidentified persons
who laid mines in the Negev
last week which killed five
Bedouins and damaged two
vehicles.
According to Erez, tracks
were found leading across
the Egyptian border.
Egypt is also helping Is-
rael trace hundreds of sto-
len cars smuggled from Is-
rael into Sinai for sale in
Egypt, Erez said. The re-
covered vehicles will be re-
turned to their owners.
