He suc- ceeded Dr. Israel Golds- tein, who is now in re- tirement from Zionist leadership in Jerusalem. It is their courage and de- votion that led both to suc- cessful leadership Jewish ranks. When there were ob- stacles, and there are many in Jewish life, they were al- ways "headstrong" in the sense that they defied all obstacles in the beet inter- ests of their people. Their daughter, Rena Blumberg, was faced with obstacles to her very life, was confronted with pain and agony. She defied illnesses as her parents. did political obstacles. She was "headstrong," triumphed and applied the term to her book. "Headstrong" is the story of Mrs. Blumberg's battle with cancer; a battle she eventually won. The author de- scribes her personal struggle with the disease, the effect it had on her family and the painful process of chemotherapy which was responsible for her cure. A turning point in her treatment was the emo- tional and psychological pain she suffered when she saw another woman make a play for her husband at a party. "It made me fighting mad," Mrs. Blumberg re- lates. "It was as though she had written 'me off since I had. cancer and was quickly moving' oving in on my territory."
