Danny Raskin's
COUPON,
The Best of Everything
2
ONE OF THE AREA'S
finest talents, Pam Martin,
continues to weave her
wondrous song stylings at
Darlin' Lilly's, Orchard
Lake Road between 12 and
13 Mile, Tuesday through
Saturday.
Pam and her very fine
group, Pizzazz . . . (they
should be called Pizzazz
All-Stars) . . . are a perfect
blend together . . . making
beautiful music in a listen-
ing and dancing style of
their own.
On the keyboards galore,
Mark Heckert is a bundle of
effervescence and show-
manship as he bobs his
nimble fingers from ivory to
ivory . . . Dennis Palazzolo
on bass strums a distinc-
tive guitar and is a favorite
with vocal renditions .. .
especially a la Neil
Diamond . . . Dave Martin
(no relation to Pam) on
drums keeps a good solid
beat without trying to be
overpowering . . . and main-
tains a consistent quick-
ness.
Pizzazz is by no means
just a backup band ...
The three guys are very
good ... each an all-star
in his own right.
In front, Pam Martin
blends the four-part har-
mony into melodies that are
great for listening and danc-
ing . . . Her renditions of
"My Guy," "On A Clear
Day," "I'm The One," "New
York, New York," "Funny
Girl" medley including
"Don't Rain On My Parade"
. . . and a super "Gloria"
that must be classed among
the best.
Even avid dancers take
time out to listen to this fine
musical aggregation.
Pam's beautiful voice,
coupled with a very pleas-
ant range, excellent poise
and presentation as she
cradles the microphone is
musical concentration from
the heart.
Darlin' Lilly's now has
new lunch and dinner
menus ... plus full meals
... A number of entrees
are first-timers at the Or-
chard Lake Rd. spot ...
and while many other
places accept food costs
with rise in prices, Dar-
lin' Lilly's has lowered
theirs.
And guess what we have
discovered . . . the closest
thing yet to that Louisiana
Sauce looked for since the
Town Pump days on
Montcalm . . . While at Dar-
lin' Lilly's, our very person-
able, smiling and efficient
waitress, Cindy Gillespie,
brought us the Louisiana
white sauce with butterfly
shrimp.
Can't put my finger on it,
but there's still one or two
ingredients missing . . . If
former Town Pump owners
Cass and Henry Warsaw
know their recipe of yes-
teryears, I'd sure appreciate
having it for everyone to
see.
THE LOWER THE
temperature the better it
will be for guests of the
Northfield Hilton from Dec.
20 to 30.
New General Manager
Gerhard Seibert, spending
his first winter in Michigan,
is introducing a holiday
room special that bases the
daily room rate on the prev-
ious day's high temperature
. . . This means, for exam-
ple, that if the temperature
is three degrees on Dec. 20,
the Dec. 21 room is only $3
. . . Below zero won't count,
but the room rates can vary
from 0 to $45.
BUD SHERBOW is the
new food and beverage
manager at Tam O'Shanter
Country Club.
AFTER OVER 24 years,
Dimitri Syros and Manuel
Chavez are together again.
Back in 1958, Dimitri was
a cook and Manuel a busboy
. . . at the very popular
Roostertail off East Jeffer-
son.
Today, Dimitri owns Di-
mitri's of Southfield, South-
field and 10 Mile . . . and
Manuel Chavez is the new
general manager . . . host-
ing evenings 5 til closing,
Tuesday through Saturdays
. . . plus making those great
Caesar salads for which
people follow him from all
parts of the city.
Both Dimitri and Man-
uel were at the Rooster-
tail two weeks after it
originally opened ... and
there through a succes-
sion of the greatest
names in show business.
Manuel's fame as a mas-
terful maker of Caesar
salads is wide-spread .. .
Many celebrities look for
him when in town . . . his
chilled lettuce, with garlic
woven into the bowl, com-
bine a fabulous talent to
tenderly mix the many
fresh ingredients that go
toward making Manuel's
final masterpiece.
BESS BONNIER, con-
sidered by many as Detroit's
"First Lady of Jazz," is ap-
pearing during lunch at
Summit Restaurant, Top of
the Westin Hotel . . .
11:30-2:30 Monday through
Friday . . . and at dinner,
Sunday, Monday and Tues-
day, 6 to 11 p.m. . . . Her soft
piano solos on improvisa-
tional and classical
melodies, plus vocals, are
always a delight.
INVITED GUESTS to
recent preview opening of
Stage and Co. at the
Boardwalk on Orchard
Lake, were encouraged to
make contributions to Chil-
dren's Leukemia Founda-
tion . . . with the evening
proving most profitable to
CLF . . . Many guests
brought checks with them
and donations are still com-
ing in to Stage and Co. . . .
Contributors who couldn't
attend the preview but
would like to send their do-
nation can do so directly to
Jack and Harriet Goldberg
at Stage and Co. . . . 6875
Orchard Lake Rd., West
Bloomfield, Mich. 48033.
Many people are even
considering sponsoring
commemorative booths at
Friday, December 3, 1982 33
Stage and Co. with a sizable
donation to Children's
Leukemia Foundation.
NEW NAME OF Baja's
on Telegraph and Michigan
will be Pantele's . . . owned
by Angelo Pantele . . . and
reopening soon.
THOSE WHO RE-
MEMBER
going to
Grandma's for dinner could
compare much of the "Bub-
bi's Buffet" on Tuesday
nights at Pickle Barrel, 12
Mile and Evergreen .. .
That is, except for one thing
. . . Grandma would't think
of people serving them-
selves . . . and was always
the last to eat . . . if ever .. .
as she made sure "her chil-
dren" were fed to the hilt .. .
However, modern day
grandmas don't mind the
buffet style . . . not at all.
Otherwise, though, the
Tuesday night buffet at
Pickle Barrel is real
haimishe . . . with Jewish
homecooked . . . all-you-
can-eat . . . food like stuffed
cabbage, kishke, roast beef,
salad, halava, apple
streudel, eclairs, jello, etc.
as the words of Grandma
would ring out, "Ess mein
kind."
The tables set up in well-
coordinated style are filled
with food designed to corn-
