rael's
insistence
on
Jerusalem as one of the sites
for the delay in beginning
negotiations on the with-
drawal of foreign troops
from Lebanon.
"The current Israeli posi-
tion is unacceptable to the
Lebanese government,"
Dam told the Senate
Foreign Relations Commit-
tee on Wednesday. The suc-
cess and the stability of that
government depends on the
support of those within
Lebanon and throughout
the Arab world for whom
the status of Jerusalem re-
mains a critical issue.
"The United States
acknowledges the impor-
tance of Jerusalem to Israel
and to all Arab states. But
insistence on a Jerusalem
venue should not be made
an obstacle to the start of
talks on the withdrawal of
external forces from Leba-
non."

LISTENING
POST

ALMOST 300 men and
women were enthralled by
the beautiful, well-
coordinated dinner party
and fine arts auction pre-
sented by Michigan Region
Women's American ORT,
who never seem to do any-
thing wrong.
It was at Park West Gal-
leries on Northwestern
Hwy.. . . with a buffet much
more than people expected
. . . and tables set up in the
huge room surrounded by so
many dollars worth of beau-
tiful paintings . . . Owner of
Park West Galleries, Al
Scaglione, must be given
much credit for his coopera-
tion and money outlay to
make certain the ORT
women received their pro-
per share of profit from
paintings sales . . . without
expense.
Proceeds of the fine auc-
tion went to the ORT School
of Engineering in
Jerusalem.
President of the Michi-
gan Region is Susan
Dubin ... and Mary Lee
Fishman, chairman of the
executive committee ...
Bobby Warsh was chair-
man of the art show ...
assisted by dimpled Suzie
Walters, chairman for all
special projects
Along with Al's wonder-
ful spirit, cleverness and wit
as the auctioneer . . . good
food and excellent organiza-
tional coordination . . . we
must also give a thank you
for making it such a fine
evening to our waitress,
Laurie Rochowiak, so
pleasant, personable,
courteous and ever-smiling.
Larry Warsh of Raskin/
Kitchen Maid Foods, prob-
ably didn't give it a thought,
but how come none of those
delicious Raskin Pickles on
the tables? . . . Hortense
Falk told of daughter Nancy
Falk writing "Tales About
Mumford High" for The
Jewish News back in the
'50s . . . Rosalind Alexander
as usual exuberant about
ORT (she's prez of Sutton
Ravines Chapter) and her
brother Sol Lewis, director
of the Michigan Metaphysi-
cal Society . . . One of the
ORT members buying seven
pictures . . . and then win-
ning the grand prize . . . an-
other picture.
The art auction by Michi-
gan Region Women's
American ORT was a joy.
JERRY MOSS, son of
Edee Moss, has been elected
a member in the prestigious
National Association of
Jewelry Appraisers . . .
Both are at Al Kay Jewel-
ers, Southfield and 11 1/2
Mile . . . Jerry started as a
polisher for Al Kay Jewel-
ers, working after school
(Wayne State U.) . . . then
as a benchman (repairing
rings, sizing, etc.) . . . In
1975, Jerry missed graduat-
ing with honors by 3/1000 of
a point.
"I DO" DEPT. ...
Frankie Selman and Vi List

will tie the knot May 22.
CENTRAL HIGH class
of 1944 is getting together a
40th reunion for 1984 .. .
and it'll take that long to
round up all the ex-grads for
an expected gala occasion
. . . Names, addresses and
phone numbers of alumni
are needed . . . Write to
Phyllis (Rosenberg) Paul,
22586 Telegraph Rd.,
Southfield, Mich. 48034 .. .
or call her days at 352-2612
. . . For evening calls, phone
Lenore (Leff) Braude, 477-
2759.
SURPRISE BIRTH-
DAY PARTY without a
birthday was what wife
Ellen gave hubby Harold
Jaffa recently at
Dimitri's of Southfield .. .
celebrating 593/4 years .. .
His 60th will be feted in
January while at their
Palm Aire, Fla., home .. .
The "Almost 60" party had
over 60 friends and rela-
tives including their five
children and three grand-
daughters.
DEPARTING FOR the
same "kibutz" . . . Inver-
rary, Fla., around Dec. 10
. . . will be Liz and Lou
Freeman, Mitch and Rose
Kent, Ann and Bill
Feldman, Eleanor and Bill
Schwartz, Jan and Bob
Feldman, Bea Cohan and
RiChi and Morry Wasser-
man.
KAREN HESS, daugh-'
ter of Norma and Otto Hess,
took second place in recent
Marji Kunz Memorial
Scholarship for fashion de-
signing by Detroit News .. .
The $1,000 scholarship won
for the showing of clothing
designed by Karen will go to
further her education.
THAT'S NOT comic
Rodney Dangerfield in
those Ward's Auto World
magazine ads for Borg-
Warner . . . It's Jerry Katz
(Edna's hubby) . . . flown to
California by Ron Smith
Celebrity Look Alike serv-
ice in Los Angeles.
THE SEARCH AND
find committee for 20-year
reunion is looking for 1963
Mumford grads from
January, June and August
classes . . . If any info, con-
tact Joani (Brandes) Lesser,
626-2636; or Gail (Fried-
man) Beale, 352-6533.
IT'S A FUN experience
. . . just walking around
looking at the new-fangled
styles of telephones at latest
status symbol and must use-
ful spot opened in Applegate
Squart, Northwestern be-
tween 12 and 13. The
Phone Connection owned by
Harry Topper, Bob Schubot
and barrister Brad Shram is
most interesting . . . with
actual bubble gum phones,
Pac Man phones, elegant
hand-painted decoupage
phones, woodgrain phones,
etc. . . . plus accessories ga-
lore . . . Since everyone will
soon have to buy their own
phones, might as well be one
that can be enjoyed .
