Knights of Malta Order .. .
which includes all royalty
. . . and is considered
Europe's highest award .. .
Only a few Americans have
been honored with the robe
. . . including Harry Walt,
president of Caesar's Palace
in Las Vegas and Frank
Sinatra.
Being a Knight of Malta
gives Sir Pat a high distinc-
tion.
CARL STEGER, fine
piano songster and repartee
artist, is at Frisco's on Or-
chard Lake Rd. 5 p.m. to 8
p.m. Tuesday-Friday .. .
and Monday and Tuesday
evenings at Nifty Norman's
in Walled Lake.
IT TAKES experience or
good common sense to run a
successful restaurant these
days . . . Owners of Elaine
and Larry's Diner and Deli
in A & P Shopping Center,
Coolidge and Nine Mile,
Elaine Whisenand and
Larry Eskildsen, have the
common sense ever so im-
portant in working with
people . . . Result is usually
better quality and lower
prices in accordance with
the flow of times . . . and cer-
tainly the kind of service
folks like them would want
to have when going to a res-
taurant.
Experience is also at
Elaine and Larry's . . . in
the kitchen . . . where Helen
Greenberger cooks of the
"old school" ways prepara-
tion with soups (cream of
broccoli, etc.), kishke, Hun-
garian goulash, meat loaf
and so many of the favorites
for which she is noted.
Elaine and Larry have a
clean place . . . are a couple
of personable people trying
hard . . . and certainly de-
serve a chance . . . Most of
those who have been to
Elaine and Larry's have
come back . . . which is
really the true test of any
restaurant.
JERRY GOULD is back
in the restaurant business.
He now has The Deli at 12
Oaks and The Deli at
Lakeside.
MOST PEOPLE already
know about the excellent
veal, pizza, Italian dishes
and low prices at Red Devil,
Fenkell, about a block east
of Greenfield . . . plus, of.
course, those delicious soft
homemade garlic
breadsticks.

AWARD WINNING RESTAURANT -- MONTHLY DETROIT MAGAZINE 1981-82

OUR ALREADY LOW
PRICED

RESTAURANT

(Continued from Page 33)
prise a well-balanced meal
. . . There are always salads,
vegetables with homemade
dip, potatoes, cole slaw,
roast beef, homemade apple
streudel, eclairs, fruit bas-
ket in a carved watermelon
and cheesecake . . . The
night we were there was
also chopped liver, egg
salad, chicken salad, tur-
key, kishke and stuffed
cabbage (the bevy of entrees
changes each week).
This was only the
fourth Tuesday "Bubbi's
Buffet" at Pickle Barrel,
seating about 150 (won-
der what Grandma
would have done if she
had to feed so many?) .. .
It is a true Jewish-style
meal ... not intended to
be gourmet-ish or even
ultra fine cuisine ... just
good real -down-to-earth
food . . . fresh, wholesome
and tasty.
Folks sit down, order the
buffet . . . and a waitress
brings plate with service .. .
The customers then go and
help themselves . . .
Throughout the meal, wait-
resses continue to bring
fresh clean plates for
patrons . . . The only dishes
at "Bubbi's Buffet" tables
are for desserts . . . Food is
dished out by a young man
with chef's hat . . . instead of
it having that sloppy dug
into look . . . This in itself is
a fine feature . . . Price is
$6.95 adults, and $4
youngsters 10 and under .. .
The regular menu is also
available.
"Bubbi's Buffet" by Pickle
Barrel has been likened to a
Tuesday night Bar Mitzva
or wedding reception . . . but
it's still really the way
Grandma would have loved
to do it . . . if she wasn't so
stubborn.
WHERE IS SUPER
waitress Pauline Baron? .. .
She was one of the best .. .
and used to wait on tables at
Saksey's, Woodward and
Seven Mile.
IT'S PERMISSIBLE to
call him Sir Pat Archer now
. . . The owner of Excalibur
restaurant-lounge on
Northwestern and Franklin
near 12 Mile, and Louie
Elias of Elias Brothers will
be knighted tomorrow at
the Vatican in Rome .. .
They join a very select
group of people . . . who
have been knighted into the

But a big sleeper at Red
Devil is its broiled chicken
. . . probably among the best
anywhere . . . with a delici-
ous taste that seeps through
the entire meat . . . For
those who don't want the
skin, it comes off very easily
and flavor remains within
. . . a fine secret of owner
Yahia Mawari.
Helen Romaine, who'll
celebrate 30 years at Red
Devil in July, smilingly and
pleasantly brought the juicy
broiled chicken . . . to our
surprised delight.
Plan to come help Helen
blow out the candles on a
cake the night of her biggie
anniversary.
MOST BEAUTIFUL
sight around . . . this time of
year . . . is Topinka's Coun-
try House, Telegraph and

showplace with its lavish
decorations.

Mile, was two-day gala fes-
tivity . . . with Billy Rose, 15
musicians and songsters .. .

lians, Greeks, Hungarians,
Romanians, Jews, Rus-
sians, etc. . . . plus favorites
galore . . . from "Granada"
to "Sorrento" to "Just In
Time" etc., etc.
