Shaarey Zedek Israel Bond
tribute dinner honoring Irv-
ing and Florence Hermelin.
The event, scheduled for
Nov. 3 in the synagogue's
Morris Adler Hall, will see

the Hermelins presented
with Israel's Eleanor
Roosevelt Medal, in recog-
nition of the couple's "self-
less devotion to the commu-
nity, their synagogue, the
state of Israel and freedom-
loving peoples throughout
the world."

journalism. He was born in
Long Beach, Calif. and was
brought up in Salt Lake
City, Utah. He served as a

Israelis Hurt
in Rome Attack

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A
Jewish National Fund offi-
cial was one of the two Is-
raelis who were among the
wounded at the Rome syna-
gogue terror attack last
week, the JNF here has an-
nounced.
Max Shamgar, 55, until
recently served as JNF's
emissary in Rome. He re-
turned to Israel to take a
position in the JNF's
"Council of Teachers" and
was visiting Rome briefly
on a special JNF assign-
ment when he was
wounded.
The other Israeli hurt in
the attack was Prof. Jacob
Sarmonetta, of Hebrew
University.

rected its article on the
population of Israel. The
Jewish population of Is-
rael is 3,354,000.

lege of Dentistry. A May

Bestows Award

Mrs. Dorella Horwitz of
Oak Park received a
Presidential Citation
awarded posthumously to
her daughter, the late Dr.
Selma Fraiberg, at the 28th
annual Wayne State Uni-
versity School of Social
Work Alumni Association
Forum.
Dr. Fraiberg was a
member of the WSU School
of Social Work faculty and
was a professor of child
psychoanalysis at the :Uni-
versity of California prior to
her death in 1981.
