The event, scheduled for Nov. 3 in the synagogue's Morris Adler Hall, will see the Hermelins presented with Israel's Eleanor Roosevelt Medal, in recog- nition of the couple's "self- less devotion to the commu- nity, their synagogue, the state of Israel and freedom- loving peoples throughout the world." Max Shamgar, 55, until recently served as JNF's emissary in Rome. He re- turned to Israel to take a position in the JNF's "Council of Teachers" and was visiting Rome briefly on a special JNF assign- ment when he was wounded.
