Marriages

Ruth Zirin and Dr.
Michael Jules Mattes
were married recently. at
Temple Emanuel, New
York City. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Morris Zirin of New York.
Parents of the bridegroom
are Dr. and Mrs. Max Mat-
tes of Southfield.
The new Mrs. Mattes was
graduated from Hofstra
University, where she ma-
jored in English. Her hus-
band was graduated from
the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology, where he

earned a PhD degree in bi-
ology. He is doing research
at Sloan Kettering Hospital
in New York. The couple is
residing in New York.

Law Graduate

Bruce Stephen Simon,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Manny
Simon of Southfield, was
graduated from the Detroit
College of Law. Simon
earned a Bachelor of Busi-
ness Administration degree
at the University of Michi-
gan and holds a CPA certifi-
cate.

recently in a double-ring
candlelight ceremony at
Hamilton Place. Rabbi
Harold Loss of Temple Is-
rael officiated.
The bride is the daughter
of former Detroiters Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard A. Grushko of
Houston, Tex. Parents of
the bridegroom are Mr. and

JNF Project
Rate Increases

The Jewish Nationai
Fund is offering Jews and
non-Jews interested in es-
tablishing forests, wood-
lands, groves or gardens in
Israel, a final opportunity to
do so at the present prices of
$30,000, $7,500, $3,000 or
$300 respectively, before
the prices go up to coincide
with the $5 per single tree
as of Oct.1.
The units will carry indi-
vidual markers, and the
donors will be entitled to
special dedication cere-
monies when visiting Is-
rael.
Cost of trees is tax de-

Recently retired from
Sinai Hospital, Mrs. Silver
had administrative respon-
sibility for a number of de-
partments since 1964. She
has served on several state
and national commissions
to study the problems of the
aging and the handicapped.
She has also been a
member of the Jewish
Family Service advisory
committee on problems
of the aging and Federa-
tion's medical coordinat-
ing committee and the
services to the aged
committee.
In her new position, Mrs.
Silver will work in conjunc-
tion with Federation's
member agencies to focus on
the needs of growing num-
bers of older persons and
ways to fund projects during
a period of decreasing gov-
ernment assistance. A task
force is also being formed
under the leadership of
Federation Vice President
Dr. Conrad L. Giles to ad-
dress these issues.

Tamarack and Camp Maas

called to active duty with
