Samuel Lerner, executive
director of RS and JFS, re-
ported on the key services
provided by JFS during the
past year. He noted there
were 3,983 families served
in 1981, of which 1,276 were
aging cases. A total of 30
children were in foster care
or residential placement; 16
persons were maintained in
better housing through rent
subsidy.
In addition, the agency
is completing three years
of a project providing
group residences for frail
and elderly individuals
who cannot maintain
their own homes. A total
of 12 residents live in four
apartments which are
provided with house-
keepers and casework
services of JFS.
A kosher Meals-on-
Wheels program, jointly
sponsored with the Greater
Detroit Section of the Na-
tional Council of Jewish
Women, is currently serv-
ing 143 individuals. They
are provided two meals
daily, five days a week.
During 1981, a total of
237 families were provided
homemaker services and
249 families were provided
financial assistance to sup-
plement their incomes. A
total of 183 volunteers pro-
vided 5,238 volunteer hours
to individuals living in the
community and nursing
homes. Approximately 500
