annual awards banquet 6
p.m. Wednesday in the so-
cial hall. The evening will
consist of awards for all
youth that have partici-
pated in the program, piano
music by Kadima member
Melissa Vainik, and
entertainment by Sandor
Slomovits of the group Ge-
mini.
Slomovits' performance
will include songs and
dance music of modern Is-
rael, Old World songs in
Hebrew and Yiddish, con-
temporary and original folk
songs in English. In addi-
tion to guitar, he also will
play the bones and limber-
jack. Dinner will be in-
cluded. The evening is open
to families, and there is no

The youth department is
taking reservations for its
CPR class to be taught June
17 and 24. Both nights are
required for passing.
Michael Sabes, a volunteer
for the Heart Association
will teach the class.

there is no charge. The class
will be conducted from 7 to
11 p.m. in the social hall.

Shabat Nursery Pro-
gram. The group is open
to anyone up to age 3 and

and offers Shabat stories,
songs and games. Both
groups meet in the school
wing.
Youngsters age 7-13 are
welcome in junior congrega-
tion for services and dis-
cussions in the chapel. USY
Services are for persons in
grades seven-12 and will
meet this week in the main
sanctuary. Refreshments
are served.
BBYO Activities
The Michigan BBYO
Board of Directors will hold
its annual meeting 8 p.m.
Monday at the Laurel
Woods Apts. club house. At
this meeting, Alan Nathan,
chairman of the nominating
committee, will present the
slate to the board. Board
Chairman Gloria Ellis will
present her annual report.
A joint meeting of the
outgoing and incoming AZA
Council executive boards
will be held at 4 p.m. Mon-
day at the BBYO office to
select a chairman for the
1982 regional convention,
which will be held over
winter break in December.
A similar meeting for the
BBG Council will be held
3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the
same facility.

Joan Kalef Memorial
Leadership Award are
due at the BBYO office on
Thursday. The award
was established in mem-
ory of Joan Kalef, past
president of the Bnai
Brith Women's Council of
Metropolitan Detroit.
The award will allow a
BBYO member to attend
the Machon (Inter-
Regional Convention)
June 20-24 at the Bnai
Brith -Perlman Camp in
Starlight, Pa. Applica-

The AZA softball league
will begin play Sunday at
Southfield-Lathrup and
Southfield High School ball
