RAMAT GAN — A
pioneering program of af-
firmative action has given
100 Sephardic students the
opportunity to begin reg-
ular academic studies at
Bar-Ilan University.
Each student has an indi-
vidual tutor, a person in a
higher class in the same de-
partment and, where possi-
ble, from a similar socio-
economic background.
Tutor and student meet
several times a week to dis-
cuss study material, review
the freshman's work and
find solutions to any prob-
lems that arise.
A week is a long time in
politics.

Hebrew words, especially
names and places appearing
in the Bible, have always
appeared in English dic-
tionaries and have been
popularized.
Yiddish and Yiddishisms
began to appear in English
dictionaries three decades
ago.
Evidence of such recogni-
tion is in "An Etymological
Dictionary of Modern
English," edited by Ernest
Weekley (Dover Publica-
tions).
Weekley's . etymological
study proves immensely
valuable in linguistics. For
the perfection of English,
the volume is not only help-
ful but becomes mandatory
as a study aid.
