The Chinuch Atzmai Torah School System has been educat-
ing tens of thousands of Israel's youth for close to thirty years,
preparing a generation of productive Torah-loyal citizens.

Maintaining this structure of quality education, in 200 schools
and 225 kindergartens serving 125 communities throughout Is-
rael, has been a primary concern of Jews throughout the world
during these crucial developmental years.

that cannot be known
through the senses.
Hazzanut gives us access
to an otherwise indefinable
dimension of human exist-
ence; to human values
which might otherwise be
lost in a world of only those
things which can be meas-
ured, defined or catalogued.
The poetry of hazzanut
gives meaning and dimen-
sion and definition to reli-
gion.
It is the hazzan's task to
lift those who pray with him
out of the realm of the phys-
ical, the thinkable, and the
measurable, to bring them
closer to the unthinkable.
That state is true prayer
and the hazzan can lead
man to achieve it."

JNF Sabbath
Marked Feb. 6

Jewish National - Fund
Sabbath, slated for Feb. 6,
also known as Shabat Shira,
occurs just before the cele-
bration of Tu b'Shevat (Feb.
8), the New Year of Trees,
according to JNF president,
Ruben H. Isaacs.
Isaacs said many of the
synagogues and temples
throughout the state are
making plans to have their
rabbis devote their ser-
mons, or a portion thereof,
to the aims and achieve-
ments of the JNF on that
day.
Information and material
is still available to rabbis
and others interested, at the
JNF office, 27308 South-
field, Lathrup Village,
557-6644.

Roman Entrance

JERUSALEM (JNI) —
Pedestrians may now enter
the walled Old City through
an ancient Roman entrance
that apparently was used by
soldiers guarding the main
entrance to Jerusalem
1,800 years ago. The magni-
ficent entry, just under the
Damascus Gate, comprises
a large arch of the type Ro-
mans built to honor their
emperor's victories.
The arch was part of a
tower which in the 16th
Century was incorporated
into the Damascus Gate.
The tower, adjacent to a
huge Rotaan garrison hall
and hidden staircase, was
used as a Jordanian army
position during the Six-Day
War.
