ing area for 100 more .. .
open on Friday, Saturday
and Sunday for people who
enjoy quiet dining.
In 1963, Gus made his

ner The last four years,
Jimmy has been concentrat-

TRY THOSE Spiral
Potatoes at John Laffrey's
Steak Bar downstairs at his
Vineyard's, Franklin Rd.
and Northwestern . . . made
fresh . . . and looking like
onion rings . . . They're
sliced- very thin and are de-
licious.
ANOTHER REVELA-
TION is discovered upon
dining again at Mario's on
Second . . . Hardly many
places where such good food
can be gotten for such rea-
sonable prices . . . Listen to
the $9 dinner I had . . . an-
tipasto with shrimp, salami,
proscuitto, celery hearts,
olives, peppers, anchovies
. . . excellent salad, firm and
cold . . . minestrone soup .. .
spaghetti with a lot of meat
sauce . . . absolutely elegant
entree of Chicken Francois,
topped by oodles and oodles
of mushrooms (cooked with
shallots and brandy) .. .
plus fresh vegetables and
sliced baked and browned
potato.
Small wonder why people
. . . all walks of life . . . come
from all over to Mario's . . .
Many sports and TV celebs
call it their favorite . . .
People here for conventions
are told Mario's is one of the
best places in town to eat
. . . Some people even go so
far as to say that it is the
best.
And Mario's is famous for
its waiters, also . . . When
they're good, they're real
good . . . Like the one we had
recently, Seconda Bor-
tolotto, 22 years at the
award-winning restaurant
. . . courteous, highly effi-
cient, extremely knowl-
edgeable on all questions
regarding the menu (don't
you just hate it when a wai-
ter or waitress says, "I don't
know. I just serve it.")
He exhibits the kind of
competence that lends-com-
fort to relaxed dining. The
mark of a good waiter or
waitress is also their timing
as to when to bring the next
course . . . Secondo has this
down pat.
Mario's is also one of the
few places that still gives
that small but elegant din-
ing touch . . . fresh butter in
ice, not on paper or in foil .. .
and its garlic bread is the
way it should be — not hard
toast, but hot, soft bread
made with garlic and
cheese.
TRACER, a four-piece
dance band, is now at De-
wery's in the Michigan Inn,
Monday through Saturday.
NOW THAT THE all-
new menu is out at Sussex
House on 12 Mile and Ever-
green, and wanting a second
