the David M. and Frieda G.
LeVine Foundation to
Henry Ford Hospital was
recognized last month with
the dedication of the cardiac
rehabilitation unit at the
LeVine Center.
The LeVine Foundation,
named after the late par-
ents of Saul and Dan
LeVine, first became in-
volved with cardiac re-
habilitation when Saul was
recovering from a heart at-
tack.
The cardiac rehabilita-
tion center is an exercise lab
used by patients with an-
gina, patients who have had
a heart attack, heart
bypass, valve surgery, or
who are considered a risk
for heart disease.

and supervised exercise
equipment such as a
treadmill, a stationary
bicycle, hand crank, row-
ing machines and steps.
The goal of exercising on
the- equipment is to help
patients resume the ac-
tivities of daily living
with ease and confi-
dence.
Dr. Bruce Relyea is medi-
cal director of cardiac rehab.
The program includes
exercise
stimulus or
periods, cool-down periods
and rest and refreshment.
The heart rate is monitoried
by electrode wires attached
to a patient's chest and to a
radio transmitter whose
signal is picked up by a
four-channel monitor for
continuous display; the
blood pressure is monitored
by a blood pressure cuff.
