Scout Wins Eagle Award

The Eagle Scout Award
was presented to Michael J.
Reifler, senior patrol leader
of Boy Scout Troop 23, at a
recent Court of Honor held
at the Jimmy Prentis Mor-
ris Branch of the Jewish
Community Center.
Michael is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Reifler,
members of Cong. Bnai
Moshe, where Michael re-
ceived the Ner Tamid, Sc-
outing's religious award.
In addition, Michael was
the winner of the Pearl
Scholarship for Zionist ac-
tivities from the Hebrew
High School from which he
graduated with honors. He
is presently a member of the
Israeli dance troupe, Shi-
ga'on. Michael plans to
attend the University of
Michigan in the fall.
Also honored were
Eagle Scouts, Thomas
Barth and Mark Wolin,
who received Eagle
Palms; Mark Lawton,
Life Award; Jeffrey A.
Trager, Star and Life
Award; Paul Gaba and
Steven Davis, Star
Awards.
Troop 23 is the only
Jewish troop in the Detroit
Area Council of Boy Scouts,
and is sponsored by its
alumni association. The
troop meets every Monday,
7 p.m. at the Morris Branch,
with Nathan Trager,
scoutmaster. Jewish boys
age 10 1/2-14 are welcome.

Survivors Meet

LONDON — The Inter-
national Council of Jews
from Czechoslovakia re-
ports that survivors of the
Auschwitz and Neuen-
gamme concentration
camps held a three-day
meeting in February in
Czechoslovakia, sponsored
by the Union of Anti-Fascist
Fighters.

Prof. Joseph Gutmann of
Wayne State University's
department of art and art
history is one of three
American scholars asked to
participate in a series of 200
West German radio broad-
casts about Judaism.
The series of broadcasts
began in December and will
conclude in June, and are
being aired over three
channels of Suedwestfunk
radio network.
Dr. Gutmann's lecture
will be broadcast in Ger-
many June 17. His hour-
long broadcast deals with
the history of Jewish art,
how it was affected by the
rise of anti-Semitism, and
the unique aspects of
Jewish art.
