NEW YORK (JTA) — In
line with Hadassah Maga-
zine's expansion, the edito-
rial and business direction
which has been under one
person will now be divided,
Frieda Lewis, national
president of Hadassah, an-
nounced.
Jesse Zel Lurie, who has
been in charge of both de-
partments for the past 33
years, retired as editor.
Alan Tigay, the former
editor of the Near East Re-
port, has assumed the
duties of editor with Lurie
as the publisher.
Former Detroiter Tigay
has been editor-in-chief of
the Near East Report, a
weekly pro-Israel newslet-
ter on American policy in
the Middle East since 1978.
Before that, as a freelance
writer, his articles appeared
in the Chicago Sun-Times,
Washington Star and the
Baltimore Sun.
He has also been a New
York correspondent for the
North American -News-
paper Alliance and United
Features Syndicate.
Tigay was born in De-
troit, has a BA from the
University of Michigan
and a Master's degree
from the Columbia Uni-
versity Graduate School
of Journalism.
He has lived for extended
periods in Israel and in
Japan and speaks Hebrew
and Japanese. He has also
traveled widely in Asia and
Africa.
A Political Tiff

Ronald Reagan and his ad-
visers are reportedly furi-
ous with Israel Labor Party
leader Shimon Peres.
FolloWing a briefing with
Reagan three months ago in
Washington, Peres is said to
have repeatedly told report-
ers, "Reagan knows as
much about the Middle East
as I do about making films
in Hollywood."
