Excalibur will soon be
open Sundays.
Easy listening at the Ex-
calibur is being presented
by a group that calls itself
Starburst . . . for whatever
reason ... Rock groups like
to take these strange names
. . . but this isn't a rock
organization . . . very far
from it.
Starburst at Excalibur is
made up of songstress
Kathy Locke . . . Ron De-
Palma on the keyboard and
vocals . . . Marty Kallao,
lead and bass guitar : . . and
Jim Ryan, drums . . . It
could be among the best
musical aggregations had
at Excalibur by owner Pat
Archer and manager Nick
Cerise.
Kathy sings with a lot of
feeling . . . as does Ron,
whose mastery of the ivories
is beautiful . . . and very few
are better than Marty .. .
The foursome do easy-to-
remember tunes . . . soft
Latin-American and
romantic ballads . . . very
much to the pleasure of
those listening to songs like
"Old Black Magic,"
"Chicago," "Just In Time,"
etc.
AL LOEWENSTEIN
and Alfred's Restaurant in
Somerset Mall, Troy, have
been selected official chili
maker to represent 11
states in the North Central
Regional Cookoff Contest,
tomorrow in Saline, Mich.
. . benefitting the Kidney
F
. oundation of Michigan ..
With Al will be his chef .

BIG FAULT WITH a lot
of waitresses is allowing
food to stay too long under
the lamp warmers before
picking it up . . . The food
becomes dry . . . especially
eggs and fish . . . Best thing
for customer to do is ask
your waitress or waiter to
pick up the food as soon as
possible.
FREE OUTDOOR per-
formances are being held
through May 24 during the
Attic Theater's third an-
nual performing arts festi-
val . . . Harmonie Park,

monie . . . Remainder of the

Jewish Link
to Concert Told

The Pro Mozart Society of
Greater Detroit will present
a concert 3:30 p.m. Sunday
at the Grosse Pointe War
Memorial.
Ruth Burczyk will play
Johann Strauss' "Valses,"
arranged by Alfred Gruen-
feld.
Gruenfeld, a reknowned
pianist and composer, was
first the royal court pianist
in Berlin and later, when he
moved to Vienna, he be-
came the court pianist of
Emperor Franz Josef. The
program will also feature
excerpts from operas by
Mozart, which he wrote
based on the text of Lorenzo
Da Ponte.
Da Ponte, whose real
name was Emmanuelo
Conegliano, was born
and raised as a Jew in
Venice. In later years, he
was baptized and became
the leading playwright at
the court of Emperor
Josef II.
Da Ponte, Mozart and
Casanova had once
attended a Friday night
service at the Great
Synagogue in Prague. It
was on the occasion of the
premiere of the opera "Don
Giovanni" in 1787 with the
music by Mozart and the
text by Da Ponte.
There is a charge.
