Ruth Burczyk will play Johann Strauss' "Valses," arranged by Alfred Gruen- feld. Gruenfeld, a reknowned pianist and composer, was first the royal court pianist in Berlin and later, when he moved to Vienna, he be- came the court pianist of Emperor Franz Josef. The program will also feature excerpts from operas by Mozart, which he wrote based on the text of Lorenzo Da Ponte. Da Ponte, whose real name was Emmanuelo Conegliano, was born and raised as a Jew in Venice. In later years, he was baptized and became the leading playwright at the court of Emperor Josef II. Da Ponte, Mozart and Casanova had once attended a Friday night service at the Great Synagogue in Prague. It was on the occasion of the premiere of the opera "Don Giovanni" in 1787 with the music by Mozart and the text by Da Ponte. There is a charge.
