Israel, also in the Brahm's
Requiem.
Fischer-Dieskau con-
certizes often in
Jerusalem, Haifa and
Tel-Aviv; his concerts
there are sold out as soon
as they are announced.
In Israel, his listeners are
not only former German or
Central European Jews;
surprisingly enough, even
people who don't know
German are clamoring to
hear him.
His style and artistry are
of the highest degree and
perfection! The concert on
Saturday will undoubtedly
be the highlight of the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra's
Brahms Festival!

Schumann, Brahms and
others.
He is also one of the most
sought after operatic
baritones; he is the author
of very informative and
musicological books and is
also a conductor.
On Saturday he will be
the soloist in the "German
Requiem" by Brahms. The
soprano soloist of the Re-
quiem, presented by the De-
troit Symphony Orchestra
under Maestro Antal
Dorati, will be the wife of

The Michigan Senate has
adopted a resolution of trib-
ute to Julius Chajes, who is
celebrating his 40th an-
niversary as conductor of
the Center Symphony Or-
chestra at the Jewish Com-
munity Center.
The resolution describes
Chajes' musical education,
his career in Detroit as a
musician, conductor and
composer, as well as his
teaching at Wayne State
University.
The resolution states in
part:
For 40 marvelous years
Mr. Julius Chajes, music
master extraordinaire, has
conducted the superb Cen-
ter Symphony Orchestra of
Detroit. This excellent or-
chestra, which he founded
in 1940, has consistently
given the public the very
finest in beautiful music. In

Teaching About Holocaust
Focus of ADL Delegation

NEW YORK — American
Jewish community leaders
will meet with educators
and gol, ernment officials in
Poland, France and Italy to
discuss teaching about the
Holocaust.
The meetings, part of an
international interreligious
seminar sponsored by the
Anti-Defamation League,
will take place June 25-July
6, and will be highlighted by
a private audience with
Pope John Paul II.
The group will meet with
church and government of-
ficials and Jewish commu-
nity leaders to discuss the
status and living conditions
of Jews in the three coun-
tries.
Meanwhile, the open-
ing of a dialogue between
Holocaust survivors,
their children and media
arts specialists will take
place at a conference
Monday at the Waldorf-
Astoria Hotel in New
York City.
Sponsored by the newly
established Holocaust Sur-
vivors Memorial Founda-
tion, the conference will
focus on the importance of
Holocaust survivors work-
ing with media arts people
— filmmakers, playw-
rights, journalists,
documentarians, graphic
artists, musicians, etc. — in
educating the public about
the Holocaust.
Titled "The Silent Gener-
ation: Beginning a Dialogue
With Media Artists," it will
also underscore the urgency

in gathering oral tes-
timonies from Holocaust
survivors.
In a related development,
a delegation of representa-
tives of the World Federa-
tion of Jewish Fighters,
Partisans and Former Con-
centration Camp Inmates
are in Poland for a two-week
visit to take part in interna-
tional events marking the
35th anniversary of the lib-
eration of the concentra
camps and to mark the S
anniversary of the Warsaw
Ghetto uprising.
