that cause nasty sleeping
problems), super terrific
vitamins (much better than
the ones Dr. F. used to pro-
vide), mineral supplements
(also much better) and spe-
cial packages of protein
supplements.
4. If we don't come in
regularly or see Dr. F.
every six months we will
have to start all over
(Start all over translates
as $50 — which is what
this introductory meet-
ing is costing me.)
5. We must obey — to the
letter — Dr. F.'s 24 basic
rules; the most important of
these is 'Don't eat hot dogs!'
(Eat hot dogs?) — and while
Dr. F. does not want to
frighten anyone we should
realize that physical prob-
lems have occurred with
people who do not get all the
shots and consume all the
dietary supplements that
Dr. F. provides. (No word
about the mental problems
to be caused by Coney Is-
land deficiencies.)
6. Then there's our menu
for each day and a list of the
specific foods that are per-
mitted for each basic diet-
ary category — NO devia-
tions are permitted. Now on
the menu, for example, we
find that for breakfast we
are permitted 1/2 hot dog —
or — (hot dog?) — we also
find that we are permitted
one hot dog (hot dog?) for
lunch and one hot dog (?) for
dinner — and that THESE
hot dogs are sold at the
clinic — and only at the
clinic.
Further we find that Dr.
F. is selling dietary supple-
ments: meat patties, frozen
dinners, bread, special salt,
salad dressings, catsup,
barbeque sauce, sweeten-
ers, teas, and no-cal Girl
Scout cookies. He hasn't put
in a line of jams, jellies and
relishes yet; just give him
time. And — watch our
bulletin board for the an-
nouncement of the grand
opening of Dr. F.'s new or-
ganic produce stores. Dr. F.
will personally fill in our
charts (let's hear it for Dr.
F.!).
7. Lists of mandatory
exercises, aerobic (and
anaerobic?) are distrib-
uted as is another list for
our own convenience and
enjoyment, of the nutri-
tionally sound foods that
we are encouraged to buy
from Dr. F. (Miss Dr. F.'s
associate confides in us
that 1/3 of Dr. F.'s patients
are sufficiently insensi-
tive as to not shop at the
company store. Ingrates!
Clods!)
8. Counselors, not Dr. F.,
are available for counseling
(what else) and consultation
(what's the difference?). Ah
yes, consultation is a 10-
minute meeting with a
counselor; counseling is a
45-minute meeting with a
counselor to help us im-
prove our self esteem — $10
per session (no Blue Shield
reimbursement).
Also
`Workshops' are held from
time to time by counselors

on important and meaning-
ful issues (minimal fee —
BYOB).
And oh, yes, counseling
with the counselor is effec-
tive in helping us achieve
our goals. (One suspects
that the counselor who con-
sults and. counsels is our
cheer leader who would not
be at all amused by an offer
of a Dutch weekend at
Cedar Point to bob for
French Fries.)
9. And there's more —
home study materials that
include questionnaires, a
laundry list of 100 tech-
niques for weight control
(eating less is not included
— eating good hot dogs is),
daily - weekly - monthly
check lists, and 10 more
pages of densely packed in-
formation (that's how you
lose weight — you don't
have time to do anything
except read this stuff, go to
Dr. F.'s office, cook hot dogs
and empty your bank ac-
count) — plus — pages of
Feel Best Recipes using
(you guessed it) Dr. F.'s food
products.
Now for the best part,
Danny! A tour, in fact a
mandatory visit to the good
doctor's in-house grocery
store. Great stuff at great
prices; hot dogs — $1 each;
ground meat patties — $6
per pound; catsup only
$1.50 for an 8 oz. jar. Hot
