nated: "Anti-Judaism is a
heritage from the ancient
world, but it has been in-
creased in Christian times
by pseudo theological
arguments." The guidelines
further remind the Catholic
community that the Jewish
people are not responsible
for the death of Jesus
Christ.
They also ask Christians
to understand the disper-
sion of the Jewish people
coupled with the desire of
Jews' to move to Israel.
Catholics are asked to be
sensitive to American Jew-
ry's deep feelings for Israel.
The implications of the
Holocaust must be hon-
estly faced today by
Catholics, according to
the guidelines. The "pro-
found impact on Jews
throughout the world of
the Holocaust, which
took place in presumably
`Christian Europe' de-
mandsk a greaIer aware-
ness within the Christian
community," the docu- -
ment says.
In order to better
Catholic-Jewish relations,
the publication suggests
joint prayer, social justice,
reconciliation and educa-
tion.
"Responsibility for past
and present migun-'
derstandings and injus-
tices" attributable to the
Christian community must
be admitted'by Catholics,
the document says. "Infor-
mation and clarification
concerning Judaism is im-
portant to all levels of
Christian instruction."
The Jewish Community
Council said the Detroit Ar-
chdiocese was one of the few
in . the U.S. who have pub-
lished the ecumenical
guidelines.
