The guidelines further remind the Catholic community that the Jewish people are not responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. They also ask Christians to understand the disper- sion of the Jewish people coupled with the desire of Jews' to move to Israel. Catholics are asked to be sensitive to American Jew- ry's deep feelings for Israel. The implications of the Holocaust must be hon- estly faced today by Catholics, according to the guidelines. The "pro- found impact on Jews throughout the world of the Holocaust, which took place in presumably `Christian Europe' de- mandsk a greaIer aware- ness within the Christian community," the docu- - ment says. In order to better Catholic-Jewish relations, the publication suggests joint prayer, social justice, reconciliation and educa- tion.
