ceremonies for the Detroit
projects was chaired by
Shimshon Krupnick,
chairman of the executive
committee of Shaare
Zedek's board of directors.
Max Stern, president of
Shaare Zedek's interna-
tional board of directors ex-
tended greetings. He lauded
the Detroit group and its
president, Rabbi Joshua
Sperka, "for their extraor-
dinary effort on behalf of the
Shaare Zedek Medical Cen-
ter," expressing the hope
that the dedication "at this
important moment in the
history of the Middle East
will be a symbol of human
understanding and of our
genuine desire for peace."
Dr. B. Hurwich, direc
tor of dialysis, expressed
the appreciation of the
Shaare Zedek staff for
the dialysis unit and re-
habilitation • workshop,
two projects endowed by
the Detroit Friends of
Shaare Zedek 1Hospital.

American Olim in Israel:
Why Some Stay and Others
Leave."
Dr. Berman is a visiting
lecturer at the University of
Michigan, where he also
studied as an under-
graduate. He received his
MSW degree in social work
and PhD in sociology from
Case-Western Reserve
University, -
Prof. Berman immigrated
to Israel in Auguste 1974.
Previously, he was assis-
tant professor of sociology
for three years at the Uni-:
versity of Michigan, Dear-
born campuS. In Israel he
has directed several survey
research studies on the ad-
justment of North Ameri-
can olim in Israel. He hars
also taught in the depart-
ment of sociology at the He-
brew University and at
Beii-Gurion University in
Beersheva.
