Jews Should See
Selves Through
Own Eyes: Author

PRINCETON, N.J.—Jews
must learn to look at them-
selves through truly Jewish
eyes, not through a filter of
Christian doctrine and
thought, according .to Lucy
Dawidowicz, author of "The
War Against The Jews."
Addressing a remit Bnai
Brith national conference on
adult Jewish education
here, she recommended
Jewish self-education as the
most effectve remedy for
the - damaged Jewish self
image.
Ms. Dawidowicz said that
Jews educated in the West
usually acquire a view of
themselves distorted by a
neglectful or inaccurate
Christian perspective which
continues to be an integral
component of even the secu-
lar curriculum.
The Jew today is still con-
fronted "by a world in-
formed and animated by
Christian culture, and in-
fected by paganism, hedon-
ism and black magic," she
says.
Jewish "self-education is
essential if Jews are to dis-
cover their own identity for
themselves, Dawidowicz de- -
dared, adding that ',!self-
education is our • safe con-
duct through the realm of
Christian civilization."
