Will Hold Meeting
Will Speak at Bnai Moshe
The Jewish Historical So-
ciety of Michigan will hold
its semi-annual meeting
noon Jan. 22 at Stouffer's
restaurant in Northland.
Guest speaker will be Dr.
Eugene D. Perle, professor
of urban planning at Wayne
State University. There is a
charge, and guests are wel-

A former Catholic priest
who converted to Judaism,
Abraham Carmel, will
speak for- the Cong. Bnai
Moshe Town Hall series 8
p.m. Sunday in the main_
sanctuary of the synagogue.
Carmel will speak on "Con-
verting Jews to Judaism."
Carmel, a member of the
faculty of the Yeshiva of
Flatbush, N.Y., wrote about
his conversion in "So
Strange My Path." He
speaks little of his con-
version and devotes much of
his time to Jewish issues.
Carmel was graduated
from the Ferkauf Graduate
School of Yeshiva Univer-
sity in 1966 and is currently
enrolled in a doctoral pro-
gram. He lived and taught
in Israel for two years and
plans to settle there.

Southeastern Michigan will

Chapter of the American
Medi•;:l Writers Associ-
ation. Ms. Betman has
worked in public relations,

claimed as JNF Month. The
highlight of the month is Tu
b'Shevat, the New Year for
Trees, which will be cele-
brated on Jan. 23. In Israel
where spring comes earlier,
everyone, but especially
children, plant a tree on Tu
b'Shevat and this custom
has become worldwide. In
the Detroit area, thousands
of pupils in all the Jewish
schools will participate by
buying trees for planting in
Israel.
