after 20 years in July 1908.
At that time, Dropsie Uni-
versity decided to take over
the publication of the quar-
terly in this country. A new
series was started in July
1910, and since then the JQR
remains the only scholarly
journal published in English
that reflects the biblical and
Judaica research projects
undertaken by Jewish and
Christian scholars, profes-
sors and students.
The JQR reaches in-
stitutional and individual
subscribers in the United
States, Israel and in 28 other
countries throughout the
world.
The first editors were the
late Dr. Cyrus Adler, who
was president of Dropsie,
and Dr. Solomon Schechter,

CHICAGO (JTA)—Two
men and 12 women are cur-
rently enrolled in the Jewish
Communal Service gradu-
ate program at Spertus Col-
lege of Judaica here, and
three men and seven worn-
en are enrolled in the col-
lege Jewish Education pro-
gram, in the first year of
the nation's newest gradu-
ate school of Judaic studies.
Dr. David Weinstein,
Spertus College president,
said that new interest in
ethnic origins, which he said
was permeating American
Jewish life, had created a
great demand for teachers
and social welfare workers
with advanced degrees both
in their professional fields
and in Judaic studies.
Requirements for en-
trance into the graduate in-
stitute are a bachelor's de-
gree with a major in
Judaica or its equivalent,
for the education program,
and a bachelor's degree
with a minor or its equiva-
lent for the communal serv-
ice program.
In both two-year pro-
grams, which are expected
to produce their first mas-
ter's degree holders in June
1979, students will take Ju-
daica courses at Spertus
College and some profes-
sional courses at the Uni-
versity of Illinois at Chicago
Circle.
