Greet Satovsky on 70th Birthday



Dedication of more than-
half of "his 70 years to con-
gregational and community
causes brought scores of
cheers this week to Abra-
ham Satovsky on his 70th
birthday. ..
' A former president of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek, a
national leader in the
ational Federation of Jew-
Men's Clubs, a leader in
lied Jewish Campaigns,
Israel Bonds and numerous
other causes. Satovsky
earned a leading role in
Conservative Jewish ranks
and in the agencies serving
Detroit Jewry.
Satovsky's links to con-
gregational service go back
to his youth, when his
father, Samuel, was a
builder of the Chicago Blvd.
Shaarey Zedek sanctuary as
a member of the syna-
gogue's building committee.
Abraham Satovsky, who
served as president of every
group that has been or is
- affiliated with Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, was Bar
Nlitzva in the Willis and
Brush St. building.

Workmen's Circle
Branches to Meet

Workmen's Circle Branch
460 will meet at 8:30 p.m.
today in the Labor Zionist
Institute. There will be a
speaker from Citizens for
Better Care, an organization
that monitors nursing
homes in Wayne and Oak-
land Counties and works for
legislation pertaining to the
nursing home industry.
Workmen's Circle's
newly-forming Branch 463
(Leon Cousens Branch) will
meet at 7 p.m. Sunday . in
the Labor Zionist Institute.
The topic will be "Educa-
tion for Jewish Cultural
Identity." The discussion
will be led by Dr. Norma
Shifrin of the Wayne State
University College of Life-
Long Learning.

Allon Will Speak
at Temple Beth El

Former Israeli Foreign
Minister Yigal Allon will
speak at services 8:30 p.m.
tonight at Temple Beth El.
Allon will discuss the cur-
rent political situation in
Israel and its effect on
world Jewry.
Allon is in the U.S. on part
of a tour for the United Jew-
ish Appeal and Israel
Bonds. He is speaking in
Detroit under the aegis of
the Labor Zionist Alliance.

congregation.
Satovsky was chairman of
the legal committee-of the
synagogue, president of the
men's club from 1947 to 1950
and named honorary presi-
dent in 1958. He was presi-
dent of the synagogue from
1958 to 1961 and is a life
member of the board.
He founded and is past
president and honorary
president of the -Great
Lakes Region of the
National Federation of Jew-
ish Men's Clubs and is a
past president a life mem-
ber of the board of the
NFJMC.

Satovsky attended Bishop
School and old Central High.
From U-M he received
bachelor's and law degrees.
He is a member of the
American, Michigan and
Detroit bar associations.
He is former president of
Detroit Lodge of Bnai Brith
and former vice president of
the Metropolitan Detroit
Bnai Brith Council. He has
been a member of the advi-
sory council of the United
Synagogue of America and

Roundtable - Honor
for Chrysler Exec

Eugene A. Cafiero, presi-
dent of Chrysler Corp., will
receive the 1977 National
Human Relations Award
from the Greater Detroit
Round Table of the National
Conference of Christians
and Jews, Dec. 7 at Cobo
Hall.
Alan E. Schwartz is chair-
man of the 1977 Brotherhood
Dinner at which Cafiero will
be honored.
Alfred A. May, Round
Table president, said
Cafiero will be cited for
"combining a distinguished
position in business lead-
ership with a true spirit of
public concern, resulting in
major contributions in
. meeting the economic and
social needs of Americans
in Detroit and throughout
the country."

COMMITTEE

was recipient of an award
from the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America.
Satovsky is a member of
the Detroit Service Group
and served on the Jewish
Welfare Federation's board
of governors, which honored
him with its merit award.
A visitor to Israel many
times, he led a DSG mission
there. He also is vice presi-
dent of Mo'os Hitim of
Greater Detroit and was
active in the Detroit Round
Table of the National Con-
ference of Christians and
Jews. For many years, he
was active in the United
Foundation Torch Drive and
in Israel Bonds from whom
he received the Jerusalem
Award.
He was named a board
member of the Jewish His-
torical Society of Michigan
this year and is a member
of the American Arbitration
Association and the Detroit
Bar Association's' public
advisory committee for
judicial candidates:
