THE NEW IMPRES-
SIVE, multi-leveled re-
staurant carrying on the
name and tradition -of
Chuck Muer's original
• Charley's Crab on Pine
Lake . . destroyed by
fire on Feb. 22, 1975 . .
was opened to the public
for the first time . . . next
to the Northfield Hilton
on Crooks at 1-75.
Encompassing 11,000 -
sq. ft. and seating 275, the
new Crab is Chuck's tenth
and largest restaurant,
edging out Engine House
No. 5 in historic German
Village, Columbus, Ohio.
It is the first restaur-
ant to be built from the
ground up by C. A. Muer
Corp. . .. Previous spots
have been • in existing ,
buildings, several of them
being of historic signifi-
cance and dating back to
the mid 1800's.
It is also the first among
his restaurants,. and pos-
sibly the first any where, to
have an , entire room of a
famous mansion built into
it ... The main dining room
is 47 years old ... It is the
reconstructed living room
from the Grosse Pointe
Mansion of Alvan
Macauley, head of Packard
Motor Car from 1916 to
1948.
The room and exterior
stone and metal trim
were purchased by Chuck
before the mghsion, at
735 Lakeshore Dr., was
razed in July,:-1973 . . .

Sincerely With Their Many Friends
and Customers

Very
Happy NewYear

We thank you for your
gracious patronage . . . and
most sincerely
wish the very best
in health, joy and
prosperity to all

RASA; I N

sidence was designed by
Albert Kahn ... The living
room's elegant carved
oak panelling and ceiling
arches, chandeliers, and
stone fireplace and bay
window make an impres-
sive setting for dining.
Additional dining areas
are laid out on three other
levels and tend to be
small and intimate areas
with booths to provide a
measure of privacy . . .
There are dining rooms
on a lower level, a mez-
zanine, and a hanging
balcony, which has its
own bar and an impres-
sive view out over the
Macauley Room.
Decor in other parts of
the restaurant features a
collection of relics from
the whaling ship Wan-
derer, built in 1878, and
featured in the 1922 movie,
"Down to the Sea in
Ships," starring Clara
Bow ... from the old Char-
ley's Crab, and some
818,000 worth of original
wood carvings commis-
sioned for the restaurant.
14 hors d'oeuvres, a
salad and 24 entrees are
listed on the huge, one-
sheet dinner menu . . .
Separate menus are pro-
vided for dessert, wine
and the Raw Bar. .
General manager at the
new Charley's Crab,
Steve Schulman, has a
master's degree in politi-
cal science from Hebrew
University in Jerusalem .
.. He . had been g.m. of the
Charley's Crab in
Montgomery, Ohio, out--
side Cincinnati, before
coming here.
• Steve's first training in
the restaurant field was
as a youngster at his
dad's Knife .& Fork in
Washington, D C
After going away from
the dining field for
awhile, Steve returned in
January, '74 as the -Cin-
cinnati manager . . . and
now is here, living in
Southfield with wife
Dalia and new son
Michael.
NIEL BALL and his
very fine Colours musical
group, are at the Top 0'
The Ponch through Oct. 2

for dining and dancing,
Tuesdays through Satur-
days, in the 25th floor
penthouse supper club
with the panoramic view
of Detroit and Canada.
Mel and Colours have
been playing in Toronto
for the past four weeks at
•the Pinnacle Room on the
