Operations in Guatemala City
Bezalel Gordon, son of
Rabbi and Mrs. James I.
Gordon, is now working
with the Jewish community,
in particular, and the gen-
eral community of Guate-
mala City in the wake of the
recent disaster. Below are
some excerpts of his letters.
Thursday, Feb. 2
The Jewish community is
very busy in the general re-
lief effort and in particular,
my hosts, are running
themselves ragged in their
efforts and involvement and
I move along with them.
Today we went to the air-
port to greet a special plane
from Israel bearing aid for
the victims.
I finally moved into the
little apartment connected
to Bet-El. There is a great
old woman taking care of
me at the shul (she lost 18
members of her family in
the quake).
Monday, Feb. 9
The tremors are contin-
uing, and probably will for
a couple of months, but are
less severe. Today, I went
to the relief operations air-
field to volunteer my serv-
ices as a pilot.
I then met the head of the
local Jewish youth commis-
sion and arranged a meeting
with the entire commission
for later in the week at
which time I will outline my
plans for reviewing their
defunct youth group.

Ship-radio fame is here
and I joined him this
morning as we went to an
Indian village to distribute
food.
In the afternoon I met
with the teenagers — there
is still no school yet — they
have not re-opened since the
disaster. We are also getting
a mailing out to announce
the resumption of regular
Shabat services — I'm work-
ing with the carpenters who
are fixing the Aron Kodesh
and the Atzei Haim of the
Torahs damaged in the
quake.

ing hours will be 9:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m., 3 to 5:30 p.m.,
and 6:45 to 9 p.m. There will
be no calls made on Friday
or Saturday. Women wish-
ing to assist may call Feder-
ation, 965-3939.
The Metropolitan Divi-
sion of the 1976 Allied Jew-

its kick-off meeting 9:45
a.m. Sunday at the new
