Lebanese Woman Takes Role
in Aiding Fiscal. Crisis in NY

NEW YORK — Donna
Shalala, a Lebanese Catho-
lic who grew up in Cleve-
land, is considered one of
the most powerful women
in New York City.
Miss Shalala, a self-styled
"political scientist Nvho likes
politics," last June became
the only woman named to
the nine-member board of
the Municipal Assistance
Corp., which is trying to res-
tore New York's fiscal con-
dition.
Miss Shalala, who is trea-
surer of the board, has done
much of the drafting of the
