received an MHL in 1965.
He was ordained rabbi in
1968.

Rabbi Abramson was
one of the first seminary
students to participate in a
dual program with Colum-
bia Teachers College. His
work at Teachers College
was in curriculum theory
and practice. He is pres-
ently completing his doc-
toral thesis in this field.

In 1971, after graduation,
he received the Carl and
Barbara Friedman Award
for "excellence in education
studies from the Jewish
Theological Seminary."
Simultaneously, he re-
ceived a fellowship to per-
mit him to continue his
studies with Dr. Seymour
Fox, dean of the school of
education, at the Hebrew
University.
Upon his return from Is-

Carl Hartman, associate
professor in Wayne State
University's school of social
work, will address the Jun-
ior Division of the Jewish
Welfare Federation 8 p.m.
Wednesday in the LaMed
Auditorium at the main
United Hebrew Schools
building.
He

speak
on
"Trapped in the Jaws of So-
ciety: the Individual's Strug-
gle for Identity."
The meeting is the first of
the season's open lectures.

consultant at the Alterna-
tive Center for Education
in the Redford Union

Broomfield Puts
Lazarus Story in
Congress Record

Congressman William S.
Broomfield has inserted The
Jewish News feature article
on Emma Lazarus as the
"Liberty Bard" in the Sept.
29 Congressional Record.
In an explanatory note,
Rep. Broomfield stated pre-
liminary to the insert of
the feature article that it is
one of a series on the Jewish
role in the Bicentennial, and
details the contribution of
the poetess as the "Poet of
Freedom," and author of
"The New Colussus," the
poem which appears on the
Statue of Liberty.
