General Assembly and the
anti-Israel UNESCO votes,
declared that he fully sup-
ported the actions taken by
the Representative Council
of JeWish Institutions of
France (CRIF).
"The right of Jews to exist
and be respected is insepar-
able in our eyes from the ap-
plication of the same right
to the state of Israel," he de-
clared in a communique is-
sued at the opening of the
monthly meeting of the Un-
ited Jewish Social Fund
Steering Committee of which
he is president.
"As integral members of
our respective national com-
munities, we are unable to
accept that anyone can dis-
pute Israel's right to an
equivalent place in the con-
cert of nations," Rothschild's
communique stated.
He added that he did not
see how France could rec-
oncile its recent political in-
itiatives and UN and UNES-
CO votes with the search for
peaceful and negotiated solu-
tions in the Middle East.

Kennedy, chairman of the
Senate Subcommittee on Ref-
ugees, said he hopes the U.S.
will increase its contribution
that is expected to be about
$23,500,000.
Curtailing of the UN aid
would hamper hopes for a
negotiated settlement in thtt
Middle East, according
Kennedy.

WASHINGTON—Sen. Ed-
ward Kennedy (D.—Mass.)
said the United States should
increase sharply its contribu-
tions for the relief of Pales-
tinian refugees in the Middle
East and should encourage
other nations to help.
According to Associated

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Valery and Galina Panov
credited their release from
the Soviet Union to emigrate
to Israel to the world-wide
public campaign conducted
for them.
Panov, who arrived in New
York with his wife last week
for an Ameican tour, told a
press conference that "you
gave us life because you
stirred up public . opinion"
and urged continuation of
such efforts.
Panov praised Sen. Henry
M. Jackson, the Washington
Democrat, for demanding
that Soviet Jews be guaran-
teed the right to emigrate
in exchange for -U.S. , trade
concessions.
He described the KGB's
harassment and jailings of
himself and his wife as a
deliberate effort to destroy
the ballet dancers mentally,
physically and as artists.
Panov said he and his wife.
"plan to make our home and
our base in Israel, and
eventually recruit dancers
from around the world, as
well as teach and train
Israelis, to form a classical
ballet company there, the
first one ever in that coun-
try."
Their first professional per-
formance in the United States
will be held Dec. 10 at the
Spectrum in Philadelphia.
Proceeds will go toward fi-
nancing activities on behalf
of Soviet Jewry. After a
London appearance to tape a
BBC special. they will re-
turn to the U.S. for a per-
formance in Washington on
Dec, 17 and at the Los An-
geles Shrine Auditorium Jan.
4 and Jan. 5. They are sched-
uled to return to Israel next
March.
