Two Deny Statement by Romanian Christians
That They Held Membership in the Iron Guard

Newly elected officers are

Shulamit Heit and Ruth Pes-
selnick, secretaries; Seymour
Matenky, treasurer; Toby
Slabosky, LZA Council repre-
sentative; H e n r y Faigin,
Jewish Community Council
delegate; and Freda Faigin,
social chairman.

Cornel Popa and Stefan
Stanescu, two of the group
who were listed in a mani-
festo signed by a group of
Romanian Christians (May 3
Jewish News), naming them
as members of the Iron
Guard, have denied that past
association in letters to The
Jewish News.

Wayne County Circuit Court
Judge Michael L. Stacey an-
nounced that he will be a
candidate for one of the two
recently created vacancies in
the 1st Appellate District of
the Michigan Court of Ap-
peals. Judge Stacey was the
first to file nominating peti-
tions for the Court of Ap-
peals vacancy, which com-
prises the Wayne, Washte-
naw and Livingston counties.
He was appointed to the Cir-
cuit Court in 1971 to fill the
vacancy left by John B.
Swainson, elected justice of
the State Supreme Court.
Judge Stacey earned a BS
degree in business adminis-
tration from Wayne Univer-
sity and received his law de-
gree in 1950, also from
Wayne. He practiced law for
20 years and has been active
in youth work.

Attorney Gerald A. Freed-
man has announced his can-
didacy for the office of Dis-
trict Court judge in the Farm-
ington area. A graduate of
Wayne State University's law
school, Freedman has been
a practicing attorney since
1957. He is a member of
the Michigan and Oakland
County Bar associations, the
Association of American Trial
Lawyers and the Michigan
Trail Lawyers Association.
Among his civic activities,
Freedman was apponted to
the Farmington Township
salary and pension committee
and was a commissioner on
the Oakland County Commis-
