Orthodox Reply to Energy Crisis:
Keep Car in Garage on Sabbath

NEW YORK — American
Jews were urged to join in
the massive effort to con-
serve energy by instituting

Sherer, executive president

ica.
The Orthodox leader focus-
ed attention on "the stag-
gering figures of gasoline
consumption by masses of

of Jewish religious law," and
pleaded with them to "halt
the use of their automobiles
from sunset Friday through
late Saturday."

Mollie Bertha Weiss who
passed away Nov. 15, 1971.
Sadly missed and always re-

Such action, he declared,
would be "a demonstrative
act of patriotism as well as
a service to Israel, whose
very existence is being
threatened by the blackthail
of Arab oil-producing coun-
triees."
"And, once the Jewish
masses taste the beauty of
curtailing their weekday ac-
tivities on the Jewish Sab-
bath, they may then be
motivated to more fully ex-
perience the tranquility of
Sabbath rest," Rabbi Sherer
declared.
