Fights Bigotry
With Education
The children in Judith Vo-
gel's classes are learning
what a pluralistic society is
all about in a way that text-
books are not teaching.
The former Detroiter (Ju-
dith Barnett), married to
army psyhciatrist Dr. Donald
Vogel, has made a signifi-
cant impact on Colorado
Springs, where her husband
is stationed. She introduced
minority studies on the ele-
mentary school level, and has
succeeded to such an extent
that she had to enlist other
teachers to handle the over-
flow attendance.
At
last
count, there were 60 white
children, 100 blacks and 40
Chicanos and orientals in the
extracurricular program.
Magen David Adorn expressed its gratitude, through
Dr. John Mames, chairman of the American arm's Mich-
igan region, to the David-Horodoker Women's Organiza-
tion, which has generously aided Israel's official Red
Cross service. At the women's 35th donor luncheon, Mrs.
Leo Heiman, a founder of the organization who now lives
in Miami Beach, was named woman of the year and
received the "Mission of Mercy Award" of the Ameri-
can Red Magen David for Israel. The organization spon-
sors a room at the Ashdod Medical Station, besides con-
tributing continuous support. Shown are (from left) Mes-
dames Philip Kutnick, Harry Schechter, Alex Dorchen,
president, Ralph Rimer, Bernard Chase, Joseph Davidson
and Jack Friedman.

The program consists of
four segments — black, Jew-
ish, Mexican and Indian stud-
ies. Students meet twice a
week, with field trips to
points of interest held on Sat-
urdays. These field trips
highlight the contributions
that the various minorities
have made to American cul-
