Prelate flails 'Courage'

of Jewish Croup's Plan

Against Intermarriage

In his Detroit News column Sun-

day, NIsgr. Hubert A. Maine, pas-
tor of St. Frances Cabrini Church,
paid tribute to the "courage" of
Jewish leaders who seek to coun-
teract intermarriage through posi-
tive means.

Msgr. Maino referred to a re-
cent meeting by "a Jewish group"
—he did not identify the group—
including rabbis, educators and
sociologists. Noting that most inter-
marriages are initiated at college
age when the youth leaves home
for the fir4 time, the group ad-
vised parents to send their chil-
dren to "schools with a substan-
tial Jewish enrollment, such as
Brandeis University; a b a n don
interfaith activities that have be-
come popular in the current spirit
of ecumenism; and expand Jewish
studies in colleges . . ."
