new community kosher restaurant
in the Chicago Loop have an-
nounced Feb. 1 as the target date
for its opening. The restaurant,
which will be located on the main
floor of the Sherman Rouse, will
be a meat dining place, according
to Harold A. Megan, chairman of
the Ad Hoc Committee for a
Kosher Restaurant, and Rabbi
Nathan I. Weiss, executive secre-
tary of the Chicago Rabbinical
Council.

new approach to teaching Jewish
history in the day school.
This project, which began two
years ago and has since been in
the process of refinement by the
Hebrew staff at Beth Jacob School,
has been coordinated by Rabbi
Chaim Schloss, 10th grade teacher.
In the new approach, the en-
tire 5,Ne-year history of the Jew-
ish people Is taught in cycles.
Beginning with the upper ele-
mentary grades, students are
taught Jewish history at a story-
book level. In successive grades,
it Is taught In cycles which em-
phasize biographies, geography,
issues and movements at a depth
fitting the level of each grade.
Beth Jacob School was invited
to present this new approach at
the Midwest Regional Conference
of Yeshiva Principals in Cincinnati
Jan. 31-Feb. 1. Rabbi Schloss spoke
on "A Proposal for Teaching Jew-
ish History in the Day School."

NEW - YORK (JTA) — A New

a Jewish service for Jewish vaca-
tioners in the area and to acquaint
his own congregants with the spir-

told the Jewish Telegraphic

Pastor Herbert Lovemore, a

read the English translations of
the Hebrew chants and prayers
from the Union of American He-
brew Congregations Prayerbook.
The cantor's wife opened the serv-
ice with the lighting of the Sab-
bath candles.

New York TV Viewers
Seeing Israel Ads

NEW YORK (JTA) — The Is-
rael Ministry of Tourism has
begun a $247,000 television adver-
tising campaign in the greater
New York area to promote in-
creased tourist traffic to Israel.
The campaign started on Jan.
18 and will continue for 13 weeks
with a concentration of 20 one-
minute commercials a week on
two network and one local channel.
According to Harold Friedman,
of the BradGovernment Tourist
Office, between 145 and 17300
American loweists visited Israel
in I979. The ad campaign is part
of a drive In increase the yearly
tourist influx from this country
beyond the normal average in-
crease.
He said American tourism to Is-
rael has been rising at an average
rate of 5 to 9 per cent in recent
years, though it can vary sharply
from year to year.
