Lauded for Heroism
THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
sor's Jewish community answers
the question posed by many wom-
en: "How can I double my United
Jewish Appeal pledge this year?
I don't have any money of my
own."
The flier suggests a householder
can save $350 a year out of her
expenses by such "hidden savings"
as cutting $2 a week off meals and
snacks ($100 a year), saving ciga-
rette money ($200) and eliminating
"little extras" from celebrations
($50).
"If az a Jew," the flier cautions,
"you don't pledge and save now,
you may never have the oppor-
tunity later."

Jewish Women's Group
Places Elderly in Paying
Jobs Without Charge
SAN ANTONIO (JTA) — A
free employment agency for eld-
erly persons, created by a Jewish
women's group in San Antonio,
has made hundreds of placements
since it was started more than two
years ago. It is continuing to
bring applicants and jobs together
despite a recent decline in the
number of job openings because of
the current economic chimp.
The employment service was
started in September 1968 by the
San Antonio section of the National
Council of Jewish Women after the
section found there was no
agency in San Antonio for such
job' hunters. As reported in the
current issue of the NCJW's "Coun-
cil Woman," the problem had
interlocking aspects. While it is
not easy for such persons to find
jobs when they need or want them,
the jobs are there — and often
they are the kind that employers
find it difficult to filL"
