NEW YORK- — The 21-country
ORT program of technical and vo-
cational education will enroll a
record number of youth and
adults during 1971. The ORT bud-
get similarly will top previous
years substantially.
These forecasts were made by
Dr. William Haber, president of
the American ORT Federation in
a call for the organization's 49th
national conference, to be held
at the Americana Hotel here Jan.
23-24.

More than 600 delegates, rep-
resenting over 90,000 ORT mem-
bers in practically every sizeable
Jewish community, are expected.
More than 40 men's ORT organi-
zations is New England, the
South and Midwest have indi-
cated that they will be repre-
sented.
"The ORT needs budget, as now
projected, will be the focus of this
conference," Dr. Haber stated.
"The plain fact is that ORT schools
are - imbedded in the survival
fabric of the new generation in
Israel and elsewhere, and it will
take more money to do what is
necessary.
"The connection between educa-
tion, and especially technical edu-
cation, and defense is obvious,"!
Dr. Haber noted. "But in a deeper
sense, the economic viability of
Israel is equally at stake."
