Correspondent Fraenkel
Honored by WJCongress

LONDON—At a dinner honoring
the 65th birthday of Zionist his-
torian and World Jewish Congress
leader Josef Fraenkel, the WJC
paid tribute to his many years of
effort on behalf of the organization
and Israel.
Fraenkel, a former member of
the Jewish Telegraphic Agency
staff (and correspondent for The
Jewish News), was praised for his
contributions to Jewish life in Eng-
land. David Kessler, chairman of
the Jewish Chronicle, pointed out
that there is hardly a Jewish news-
paper anywhere to which Fraenkel
has not contributed. He also is the
author of a guide to the Jewish
press of the world.
His contributions to the preser-
vation of Yiddish also were cited.
Fraenkel's father was a mayor in
Istrik, Galicia, between 1898 and
1924, spanning Austrian and Polish
rule.
Fraenkel has done research work
and offered information service to
the World .Jewish Congress for the
past 27 years. The Marchioness of
Reading made a presentation on
behalf of the WJP and its staff.
