Hillel Day School Pupils
Elect Richard Minkin
Student Council Chief
Richard Mink in was elected
president of the newly f ormed
student council of Hillel Day
School.
Delegates are Ralph Greenberg,
Mark Goldsmith, David Reed and
Jonathan Licht, with Gail Nobel,
alternate. Mrs. Joel Weingarten, a
member of the Hillel Junior High
School staff, is student council ad-
viser.
Elected by the student body,
the council members serve as of-
ficial representatives in matters
which concern the whole school.
The council is also designed to
teach good citizenship, promote
school spirit and good student-
faculty - community relations and
encourage high standards of schol-
arship and conduct.
The annual picnic sponsored
jointly by the Dads' Club and PTO
of Hillel Day School will be held
noon Sunday at Kensington Park,
Possum Hollow, Area 4.
Parents and friends are invited
to join in the fun, and are asked
to bring their own food. Light re-
freshments will be available and
there will be games for the chil-
dren and a nature trail for all.

Marks Fifth Anniversary
NEW YORK (JTA) — Leading
Jewish educators from various
parts of the country hailed Olam
Padash, the national Hebrew
Monthly magazine for children
and youth on the occasion of its
fifth anniversary, which was mark-
ed at ceremonies of the American
Hotel here last weekend.
Dr. Emanuel Neumann, presi-
dent of the Tarbuth Foundation
for the Advancement of Hebrew
Culture, and member of the Jewish
Agency executive, was guest
speaker at the event. Among the
well-wishers was former Israel
Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion,
who in a letter to Asher Wolk,
founder and editor of the publica-
tion, said that the survival of
Hebrew had been "the primary
factor in the preservation of Jewish
self-awareness."

Gets Game Plans Rolling
The Young Adult Group of Cong.

for a baseball game 1 p.m. Sunday
at Peterson Park, Greenfield and
Pickford.

of officers 8:30 p.m. June 19 at the
synagogue; a dinner-dance June
25 at the Elmwood Casino; and a
beach party June 26 at Kensington

They Made the Grade
DIANE BETH ARNKOFF,
daughter of. Dr. and Mrs. Harry
Arnkoff of Illinois Ave., Pontiac,
who is graduating from Kingswood
School, Cranbrook, was named re-
cipient of the Margaret A. Augur
award, presented each year to the
five seniors maintaining the high-
est scholastic average. Miss Arn-
koff has also been honored by the
Detroit Association of Phi Beta
Kappa and was awarded a cer-
tificate of merit as a finalist in
the National Merit Scholarship
competition. She will enter the
University of Chicago in the fall.

for 395 students at Ford Auditor-
ium 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Students
will be graduated from the ele-
mentary department, high school,
Leadership-Teacher Training In-
stitute, and Midrasha, College of
Jewish Studies.
Superintendent of Schools Al-
bert Elazar will address the grad-
uates, their families and friends.
George M. Zeltzer, president of the
UHS, will extend greetings.
Each branch will be represented
by a graduate who will speak brief-
ly on a topic related to his Hebrew
school studies. These participants

School will take place 8:30 p.m.

A cantata, "18th Anniversary—
Israel Independence," composed
by Movsas Goldoftas, will be pre-
sented by the graduates, with the
assistance of the fourth class. A
memorial tribute to deceased foun-
ders and devoted workers of the
school will form part of the pro-
gram. Families of these departed
pioneers are invited to this special
ceremony of inscribing the names
in a special "Sefer Hazikaron."
The graduation is open to the
public at no charge. Refreshments
will be served.
