100 Migrants Brought
to U.S. on Hias Flight

ROME (JTA)-A group of 100
United Hias Service-sponsored mi-
grants for resettlement in the Un-
ited States took a chartered jet
flight to Kennedy Airport in New
York.
James P. Rice, executive direc-
tor of the worldwide Jewish mi-
gration agency, who is here on an
inspection trip of its overseas op-
erations, said this is the largest
group of United Hias migrants
ever to fly to the United States on
one plane.
The 100 Jewish men, women
and children from Eastern Europe
are joining relatives in the U. S.
from whorri they have been sep- 1
arated for many years-in some
cases since the beginning of World
War II.
The newcomers will be reset-1
tled with the aid of local Jewish
communities in New York City,
Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, De-
troit, Los Angeles, Memphis, Mil-1
waukee and Minneapolis.
(Detroit's Jewish Resettlement
Service will assist the two women
brought here, both from Romania.
They are Suzanna Gluckmann of
Bucharest and Maria Lukacs.)

World War II Subject
of Ehrenburg's Memoirs

The outstanding novels, newspa-
per and magazine articles and es-
says of Ilya Ehrenburg have estab-
lished him as one of the most sig-
nificant and controversial figures
in Russia today.
Ilya Ehrenburg records the an-
guished years of World War H, as
he witnessed them, in "The War:
1941-1945," the third volume of his
vast autobiography, which World
will publish on May 24.
Concentrating on Russia's dark-
est days during the Nazi invasions,
Ilya Ehrenburg provides vivid de-
scriptions of his people's suffering,
courage, and stoicism.
