JERUSALEM-Israel no long-
er will be the land of milk and

honey for stray cats. The well-
fed felines are being fed with
contraceptive pills to stop their
hair-raising population explo-
sion.
The idea was first proposed by
an animal-loving clerk, Miriam
Rohtin, who objected to such
means as poison for doing away
with the public health headache.
She contacted Hebrew Univer-
sity Prof. Felix Sulman, who
agreed that oral contraceptives
used on humans might be ac-
ceptable for animals as well.
Miss Rohtin started to work on
the stray cats in her neighbor-
hood.
Considerably fewer litters of
kittens were reported, and pub-
lic health offiicals seemed to be
purr-fectly satisfied.
