to Start Bnai Brith
Membership Drive

The 125 lodges of the Metropoli-
tan Detroit Bnad Brith Council will
embark on a citywide fall member-
ship campaign Sunday with a
breakfast for chairmen and work-
ers 9:15 a.m. at Cong. Beth
Abraham.
A membership message will be
given by Avram (Bud) Charlip,
Council membership chairman,
Prior to the cutting of a cake in
celebration of the 121st anniver-
sary of the founding of Bnai Brith.
Following the breakfast, names
and addresses of prospective mem-
bers will be given to the workers
to be called on and signed up for
the respective lodges. The Council
office. 19354 James Couzens, will
be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Membership chairmen will dis-
tribute to workers tickets for a
preview of the new comedy
"That Man From Rio," 4 p.m.
and 8 p.m. Sunday at Studio 8.
Tickets also will be honored dur-
ing the regularly scheduled run
of the film.
The 1964-- 65 membership quota
of the M tropolitan Council is
1.500 new members.
Campaign volunteers may call
the Council office. DI 1-0863, for
breakfast reservations.
The membership campaign is
under the direction of Charlip,
Leonard Edelman, Harry Gaines,
Manuel Helfman, Leo Hollander,
Robert Israel, Harold Meyer, Carl
Stern, George Tarnoff and Hyman

Bnai Brith Council.

Four Freedoms Award
to Be Presented to
Author by BB Women

A Four Freedoms Literary Award
of $1,000 will be given for the first
time in 1965 by Bnai Brith Women,
Mrs. Maurice Turner of Los An-
geles, chairman of BBW's Four
Freedoms Library, has announced.
The prize has been establishe

dent Franklin D. Roosevelt's con-
cept of universal human rights ex-
pressed in his Four Freedoms
speech, Mrs. Turner said, and will
be given for the literary work pub-
lished in 1964 which makes the
most outstanding contribution to
thought on human rights issues.
The winning work may be either
fiction or nonfiction. Nominations
must be submitted to the Bnai
Brith Women Four Freedoms Li-
brary in Washington by Dec. 31.
