Mrs. Ruth Edelson, principal
of Sinai Hospital's Shapero
School of Nursing since its open-
ing in 1956, has been appointed
to the U.S. Surgeon General's
Committee on Educational Fa-
cilities for Nursing.
Mrs. Edelson will serve as
the committee's consultant on
practical nurse education. The
committee is co-sponsored by
the Department of Health, Edu-
cation and Welfare and the Na-
tional League for Nursing.
The committee will visit the
Shapero School next month and
then, with Mrs. Edelson, will
examine facilities at several
other institutions across the
country. The long-range goal is
to develop a guide to assist hos-
pitals, vocational schools, col-
leges and universities in plan-
ning the educational facilities
necessary to conduct a program
in nursing.
Mrs. Edelson first was ap-
pointed to Sinai's staff in 1953,
when the hospital opened, as di-
rector of nursing. She formerly
was director of nursing service
at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital.
She is a member of the Michi-
