Professor Chaim Weizman, the first
president of the State of Israel, was
born in the year of 1873 in a village
near Pinsk in Russia. On account of
the Czar's oppression against the
Jews. he went to Switzerland, where
he studied chemistry. Later he was
appointed an instructor in Chemistry
at the University of Manchester, En-
gland.
During the First World War he in-
vented an important chemical com-
pound that helped in the English vic-
tory over the German submarines.
Through this he was successful in
bringing the English Government in
contact with Zionism. Lloyd George
was Prime Minister, and Lord Balfour
was Foreign Minister. On November
2, 1917, Weizman received from the
English Foreign Minister the known
"Balfour Declaration", in connection
with the upbuilding of a Jewish na-
tional home in the Land of Israel. To
build the National Home. I'Veizman
went to the Jews of the United States
and asked for money to build the
country.
Weizman, the scholar and known
chemist, founded in 1934 in Rehovot
the "Ziv Institute" for research in
physics and biochemistry. Scholars
from various countries work in this
institute. The research work in the
institute is based mainly to prepare
the country to absorb immigrants and
to establish a livelihood for all Jews
that will come to the State of Israel.
In the year of 1949 Chaim Weizman
was elected the first President of the
State of Israel. He died in Rehovot
in the year 1952.

Pointers -Decorators Since 1907
the rabbis had rejected from
inclusion in the Canon. The
term "Apocrypha" -indicates
that they were "hidden away"
or "kept secret." There are
some who claim that this title
was at first given to such works
as those that were "hidden
away" because they contained a
certain mysterious or esoteric
content which was regarded as
too profound to be read or
communicated by any but the
learned and initiated. These un-
canonical works were perhaps
later hidden away because they
were intended to be kept from
the masses lest they think these
too are Holy or perhaps because
they did contain some Holy
words so that they could not
be discarded as trash—yet they
were not sacred as a whole so
as to be included into the canon
of the Bible.
