Rabbis' Sermon Topics for Rosh Hashanah

Detroit synagogue s have
announced their arrangements
for observance of the High Holy
Days.
CONG. AHAVAS A CHI M:
Rosh Hashanah services at 6
p.m. today and 7:30 a.m.
Sept. 29 and 30. Cantor Ber-
manis and Harry Weinstein will
alternate in officiating. Rabbi
Arm and Rabbi Applebaum will
preach. Choir will be directed
by Charles Weiner. LAHAV
teenage services will be con-
ducted at the Hayim Greenberg
Center by Robert Ginsburgh,
supervised by Jerry Katz. Junior
Congregation (8-12) services
will be conducted by George
Norman and Laurence Boxer in
the Esther Berman Branch of
the Hebrew Schools. Children's
services (5-7) at the Esther Ber-
man Building.
TEMPLE BETH EL: Rabbi
Hahn will pre a c h at Rosh
Hashanah services 7 p.m. today.
Dr. Her t z will also preach at
services beginning 10 a.m. Satur-
day. C h i l d r e n' s and youth
services will be conducted 2
p.m. Saturday. Supplementary
services will hear sermons by
Rabbi Robert J. Marx, director
of the Chicago Federation of
Reform Synagogues, at 7 p.m.
today and 10 a.m. Saturday.
Prof. Jason H. Tickton will
direct the choir. Service men
and women will be admitted
without cards.
CONG. SHAAREY ZEDEK:
Rosh Hashanah services at 6
p. m. today and 8 a.m. Saturday
and Sunday. Rabbi Adler and
Rabbi Groner will alternate in
preaching. Services will be con-
ducted by Cantor Sonenklar and
Cantor Frankel with the choir
directed by Dan Frohman.
Junior Congregation services
will be held 9:30 a.m. There
will be a 10:15 a.m. starting
time for other children.
CONG. MISHKAN ISRAEL:
Rabbi Stollman will preach on
"The Historic Lesson of 5722"
at Rosh Hashanah services be-
ginning 7:30 a.m. Saturday and
on "Can Diaspora Survive, And
How?" on Sunday, with serv-
ices beginning at 7:30 a.m. Serv-
ices begin today at 6 p.m.
CONG. BETH JOSEPH: Rosh
Hashanah services at 6:15 p.m.
today and 9 a.m. Saturday and
Sunday, with Rabbi Neiman and
Cantor Lefkovitz officiating.
CONG. BNAI ISRAEL OF
PONTIAC: Rosh Hashanah serv-
ices at 6 p.m. today and at 8 a.m.
Saturday and Sunday. Rabbi
Goodman will speak on "Making
Mountains of Moments" on Sat-
urday and "The Way to Happi-
ness" on Sunday.

Rosh Hashanah services will be
ushered in at 6:30 p.m. today
and at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and
Sunda y at Carpenters Hall,
22521 Grand River. Dr. Sylvan
J. Ginsburgh and Cantor Henry
J. Blanck will conduct the cere-

monies. Ginsburgh is principal
of the Kasle United Hebrew
High Schools and co-ordinator of
work for the Mittleshul Leader-
ship Teachers Training Insti-
tute and Adult School of Jewish
Education.
CONG. SHAAREY SHOMA-
YIM: Rosh Hashanah services
will be held at 6 p.m. today and
at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sun-
day. Rabbi Goldman will speak
on "The Meaning of Rosh Has-
hanah" the first day, and on the
"Shofar as a Symbol" the second
day. Cantor Moshe Joseph Bo-
browsky, from Toronto, will also
officiate.
NORTHWEST YOUNG IS-
RAEL: Rosh Hashanah services
at 6:05 p.m. today and at 7:30
a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Rabbi
Prero will speak on "Judging .
Ourselves" on Saturday and on.
"Jewish Identification Through
Education" Sunday.
TEMPLE BETH JACOB OF
PONTIAC: Rosh Hashanah serv-
ices at 8:30 p.m. today and at
10 a.m. on Saturday. Children's
services will be held at 2 p.m.
Saturday. Rabbi Conrad will
speak on "Outer Space—Inner
Spirit" today and on "Two Gen-
erations Walked Together" Sat-
urday. Choir will be directed by
Charles Wilson, who is also
organist.
CONG. BETH SHALOM: Rosh
Hashanah services at 6 p.m.
today, 6:10 p.m: Saturday and
Sunday and at 8:15 a.m. Satur-
day and Sunday. Rabbi Halpern
will speak on "The Wall" on
Saturday and "For Whom The
Shofar Blows" on Sunday. Can-
tor Erlbaum and choir will
chant the liturgy.
CONG. BE T H ABRAHAM:
The Synagogue invites neigh-
bors to Rosh Hashanah services
6 p.m. today and 8 a.m. Saturday
and Sunday. Irving Schlussel and
Cantor Berris will officiate. Rab-
bi Halpern and Cantor Ackerman
conduct main sanctuary services.
Israel Fuchs directs the choir.
Rabbi Halpern and Schlussel
will deliver the sermons.
The Leadership Tr ain in g
Group will conduct services for
various youth groups. In charge
of the 4-6 yr. olds are Renita
Left, Harriet Freeman, Stuart Op-
perer and Risha Ring. Conduct-
ing services for the 7-9 yr. olds
will be Esther Pines, Nancy
Davis, Helene Berman and Har-
riet Rubin. Leonard Rosenberg
and Lynn Metzger will direct
activities for the 10-12 age group.
Assisting Milton Mutchnick with
services for the 13-17 yr. olds
will be Neil Lullove and Shelly
Bank.
TEMPLE I S R A E L: Rosh
Hashanah services will be held
tonight and Saturday by Dr.
Fram, Rabbi Syme and Cantor
Orbach. Supplementary services
will be conducted by Dr. Eugene
Borowitz, professor of religious
philosophy of the Hebrew Union
College-Jewish In s ti tut e of
Religion, and Irving Rosengard,
cantor. Peter Gordon will blow
the shofar. Mrs. Harold Orbach
will join in conducting Sunday
children's services.
BETH AARON SYNA-
GOGUE: Roth Hashanah serv-
ices will be held at 6:30 p.m.
today, on Saturday and Sunday
with Rabbi Gorrelick and Haz-
zan Bagley officiating, assisted
by the choir. Rabbi Gorrelick
will speak on "Be Your Own
Judge" on Saturday and "Saint
and Sinner" on Sunday. Special
teenage services will be held
in the Aaron DeRoy Theater of
the Jewish Center for youth
(13-18), conducted by Harry
Goldstein, chairman of the Eng-
lish department of Southeastern
High. Arky Berkal of Winnipeg,
Canada will be the canto r.
Gerry Meral and Ellen Panush
will deliver student sermons.
Admission by ticket.
TEMPLE EMANUEL: Rosh
Hashanah services 8:15, p.m.

today and 10 a.m. Saturday.
Rabbi Rosenbaum will speak on
"Surviving Significantly" today
and "Hearing God's Voice" on
Saturday. Mrs. Milton Rosen-
baum and Walter M. Stark will
also participate. Choir will be
directed by Mrs. Nathaniel Gold.
Children's services (under 13)
will be conducted by Max
Rosenberg, educational direc-
tor; Albert Mille r and the
temple youth group. Children's
choir will be lead by Mrs. Albert
Stutz. Other members partici-
pating include Sam K a p 1 a n,
Albert Lieberman and Irving D.
Feig.
ADAS SHALOM SYNA-
GOGUE: Rosh Hashanah serv-
ices will be held at 6:10 p.m.
today and on Saturday and. Sun-
day, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Rabbi Segal and Rabbi Fritz A.
Rothschild, of the Jewish
Theological Seminary, will alter-
nate pulpits in the sanctuary
and social hall. Rabbi Segal
will speak on "When One Soul
Means the World." Rabbi Roths-
child's address is on "The
Mitzvot in Your Life." Cantor
Fenakel and Rev. Larry Vieder
will alternate cantorial duties,
assisted by Harry Siegel and
Maury Lax, conducting choirs.

Thomas Vieder.
CONG. BNAI MOSHE: Rosh
Hashanah services will be held
at 6 p.m. today and at 7:30 a.m.
Saturday and Sunday. Rabbi

will conduct the services,
assisted by choir. Saturday's
sermon will be on "Sins of
Averages." On Sunday, Rabbi
Lehrman will speak on "When
We Are Happy."
CONG. BNAI DAVID: Rosh
Hashanah services will be held
at 5:45 p.m. today and at 7:30

a.m. S a t u r day and Sunday
Rabbi Donin will speak on
"Where Are Thou" on Saturday
and on "Concern for the Wel-
fare of the Community .," Sun-
day. Cantor Adler and the 21
voice choir will conduct musaph
services, with Mordechai Adler
chanting the schachris service.
Junior services (8-13) will be
held in the Block Chapel at 10
a.m. both days under the direc-
tion of Robert Rockway, with
a program for 4-7 year olds.
