BUENOS AIRES.—A pledge
to suppress any anti-Semitic
manifestations in Argentina was
made Wednesday by the new
acting Interior Minister at a
press conference.
Alvaro Alsogaray, who is also
Economic Minister. denied re-
ports that there had been se-
rious outbreaks of anti-Semitism
in Argentina and that the Ar-
gentine government was not
acting against "the few epi-
sodes" which he called "truly
insignificant." _ He made the
statement in discussing Argen-
tina's "new look", following the
easing of the latest political
crisis in Argentina.
As acting Interior Minister
he said: "I wish to guarantee
in the most absolute manner
that any such occurrence which
might happen will be repressed
with maximum energy."
In another development, Po-
lice Chief Horacio Green, who
has accused Argentine Jewry of
taking the law into its own
hands in combatting the wave
of anti-Semitic incidents which
broke out in Argentina follow-
ing the execution in Israel of
Adolf Eichmann last May 31,

resigned. The resignation of
Green, who holds the rank of
Captain in the Argentine Navy,
apparently was brought about
because of the Navy's position
in the latest power clash.
Minister Alsogaray also told
the press conference that a de-
cree would be issued enabling
professional police officers to
become police chiefs, a post
until now reserved unofficially
but effectively for military men.
The minister said that police
inspector Gen. Nicolas Rodri-
guez had been named federal
police chief and would take of-
fice Wednesday.

Race Incitement

LONDON (JTA)—The Board
of Deputies of British Jews
opened a campaign for 1,000,-

Parliament to outlaw racial

Servicemen's Association and
the Yellow Star anti - fascist
movement are cooperating in
the campaign.
The Board said that it hoped
to achieve the goal by the start
of November and said that "it
is deemed essential that as

ment is left in no doubt as to
the volume of public opinion in
this matter."
