Northwest Young
Israel Dedicates
Structure Sunday

Rabbi Samuel Fink, lecturer
at Yeshiva University and vice-
president of the Council of
Young Israel Rabbis, will be
guest speaker at the ceremonies
dedicating the new structure of
Young Israel of Northwest De-
troit, 2 p.m. at 17376 Wyoming.
David I. Berris will be chair-
man of the afternoon, Mayor
Jerome Cavanagh, Rabbi Ernest
E. Greenfield, president of the
organization, and Mrs. Norman
Sukenic, president of the sis-
terhood, will extend greetings,
and Rabbi I. Stollman will greet
the audience on behalf of Vaad
Harobonim.
The distinction of affixing the
Torah scrolls will be assigned
to the families whose efforts on
behalf of the synagogue and
center voted and notable.
The honor of lighting the
Memorial plaque, dedicated in
memory of Jacob and Dora Su-
kenic, will be accorded to Nor-
man Sukenic, building commit-
tee chairman, who with his
brother, Sam Sukenic, supervised
the entire construction project.
Rabbi Samuel H. Prero, spiritual
leader of the congregation, will
deliver the benediction.
Cantor S. Ackerman will ren-
der the psalm of dedication and
the ceremony will be concluded
with a reception by the Sister-
hood.
The Building Committee, at a
special meeting held last Sun-
day, resolved that a room of the
building be dedicated to the
memory of Gus Lew, whose death
last week "terminated more than
a decade of devotion and dedi-
cated efforts, on behalf of Young
Israel."

the Union of Orthodox Jewish the federations to fulfill their ob-
Congregations of America in St. ligations to their communities

Louise, Mo., Moses I, Feuerstein,
national president, declared that
"it would be a serious mistake
for any federation to assume that
financial support entitled the
benefactor to determine the edu-
cational programming of the He-
brew day schools."
Noting that the day schools
could best serve their communi-
ties and American Jewry by re-
heritage, Feuerstein said the
need for respecting the identity
of each religious trend is obvious.
"Only by preserving their tra-
ditional character as institutions
of Torah Judaism can the Hebrew
day schools continue in their his-
toric role of providing an in-
formed and dedicated leadership
for the future," Feuerstein de-
clared.

`Sunday in New York':
Norman Krasna's Play

"Sunday in New York," which
appeared on Broadway, has
been issued in book form by
Random House. It is a new
comedy by Norman Krasna and
it was directed for Broadway
by Garson Kanin.
Replete with humor, the play
will amuse the reader as it did
the Broadway audiences. It has
many good lines and the plot
is highly entertaining.

"by assuming a larger share of
the increasingly heavy financial
burden of Jewish day schools."
Such community support, he de-
clared, was the best way of en-
suring "that the most effective
instrument for Jewish survival is
not only maintained, but ex-
panded, to serve the growing
needs of American Jewry."
