The United States Senate on
March 16 confirmed the appoint-
ment of Lawrence Gubow, De-
troit Jewish War Veterans
leader and an active figure in
the Jewish Community Council
and other local movements, as
U. S. Attorney for Eastern
Michigan.
Gubow's appointment was sent
to the Senate by President
Kennedy soon after his inaugu-
ration in January. '
Gubow was sworn in Thursday
by Chief Judge Theodore Levin
of the Federal District Court.
A large number of Gubow's
friends attended a reception in
his honor, in • Room 859 of the
Federal Building, after the in-
duction ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Cottler are leaving this week-end for a
seven-week visit in Israel.
The Rosner Family Club will meet Sunday at the home of

Mr. and Mrs. Ruben gold are attending the annual conference
of the General Agents Association of the Massachusetts Mutual
Life Insurance Co., at the Santa Barbara Biltmore, Santa Barbara,
Calif.
Mrs. Samuel Brody of Muirland Ave. has departed for a
trip around the world. While in Israel, she will visit the Samuel
Brody Building of Agriculture at the Technion.
Pvt. Stuart M. Bernbaum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bern-
baum of Santa Rosa Ave., is stationed at- Fort Knox, Ky., for
basic training.
Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Lewis of Ridgedale Ave., Oak Park, re-
cently were honored by a .surprise party on the double occasion
of their 20th anniversary and her birthday. The event, held at
the home of ,the surprised couple, was given by their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ab Lewis, and aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Shaefnes.
The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N. Y., pre-
sented Detroit's duo-piano team, Joyce and Joanne Weintraub,
in a graduation concert, March 10. They received their per-
formance certificates in piano. Among those in the audience
were their parents from Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weintraub;
Irwin Adelson, Joyce Weintraub's fiance, who attends Univer-
sity of Michigan Medical School; his mother, Mrs. William Adel-
son; his aunt, Mrs. Irving Stern and their former teacher,
Rebecca Frohman of Detroit. A cocktail party was given in their
honor at Treadway Inn that evening. Joyce and Joanne will be
home for Passover.
